India’s young prodigy and sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been breaking barriers with the bat ever since his majestic IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals. Suryavanshi, who recently skipped his Class 10 board exams to focus on cricket, received a massive cash reward from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday, February 22.

The Under-19 World Cup-winning star was awarded the hefty prize by the state for his breathtaking performance in the tournament, which India won by lifting the trophy. Notably, Suryavanshi was the second-highest run-scorer of the competition, amassing 439 runs from seven innings at an average of 62.71.

The Sensational Rise of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Bihar as a state has always stood behind Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and both the cricketer and the association are proud of his achievements.

From laying the foundation of Suryavanshi’s career at a very young age under coach Manish Ojha, who ensured that Vaibhav faced at least 600 deliveries a day, to fast-tracking him into the Ranji Trophy after he entered his teenage years, Bihar has been the pillar and backbone of Suryavanshi's growth and rise in cricket.

Suryavanshi made headlines after securing a record auction price with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, a season in which he smashed a record-breaking 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans on April 28.

He ended the season with 252 runs from seven innings at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 206.56, instantly making him a sensation among spectators, especially given his young age.

This success also boosted Suryavanshi's chances in the Under-19 team. He featured in the England Under-19 multi-format series, the Australia Under-19 multi-format series, the Ranji Plate, Asia Cup Rising Stars, SMAT Elite, the Under-19 Asia Cup, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, representing his home state in most domestic tournaments and the nation in international matches.

In many of these competitions, Suryavanshi was at the top of his game, boasting an average of over 50 in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 held in December. All of this underlines his dedication to cricket, with Bihar cricket playing a significant role in his journey.

Bihar CM Awards INR 50 Lakh Prize Money

For his contributions in the Under-19 World Cup, the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar awarded Vaibhav Suryavanshi a cheque of Rs 50 lakh under the Pashupatinath Yojna.

On Sunday, he met the Chief Minister at his office, where bureaucrats and top officials felicitated him and presented the cheque. Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Chowdhhury, attended the event to honour the young cricketer.

Suryavanshi’s Dominance in the U-19 World Cup

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's dominance in the Under-19 World Cup was a statement in itself. Although he began on a weak note with just two runs in his opening match against the USA, he bounced back with a 67-ball 72 against Bangladesh in the next game.

He then consistently raised his strike rate with explosive knocks of 23-ball 40, 30-ball 52, and 33-ball 68. In the final against England, he produced a mammoth 80-ball 175 that decisively tilted the match in India’s favour.

Batting first, Suryavanshi’s 175 powered India to a massive total of 411, while England were bowled out for 311, handing India a 100-run victory in the Under-19 World Cup 2026 final.
