Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been appointed as vice-captain of the East Zone cricket team for the upcoming 2026 edition of the prestigious Duleep Trophy tournament. Shubman Gill has reclaimed his number one spot on the ICC ODI men’s batting ranking, surpassing New Zealand rival Daryl Mitchell in the process.

Litton Das named new Bangladesh ODI captain

Litton Das has been appointed as the new ODI captain of the Bangladesh cricket team. The senior wicketkeeper-batter will be replacing outgoing skipper and star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Litton will now be expected to lead the Bangladesh side in their upcoming ODI series against South Africa later this year. The decision was likely taken by the BCB while keeping next year’s 2027 ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup in mind.

Shubman Gill reclaims, Ishan Kishan retains number one spot

Indian captain Shubman Gill surged past New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell to become the new number one ranked ICC ODI batter. The cricketer has plundered four fifty-plus scores in his last five ODI innings against England and Afghanistan.

Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, retained his number one spot on the ICC T20I rankings for men’s batters. The attacking wicketkeeper-batter recently aggregated 267 runs in India’s last two T20I series combined.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi named vice-captain of East Zone in Duleep Trophy

A 15-player squad of the East Zone team has been unveiled for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2026 season in India. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named vice-captain of the side, even though the youngster has only played eight first-class matches in his career. He will be aiding team captain and national teammate Ishan Kishan in the tournament. 

The Duleep Trophy 2026 season will be played between August 23 and September 6.

Ryan ten Doeschate joins KKR for IPL 2027

Ryan ten Doeschate has joined the KKR franchise as its Head of Cricket Strategy. The former Netherlands cricketer has previously served the franchise as its player, as well as its fielding coach. 

Notably, Doeschate joined the KKR camp for next year’s IPL 2027 season, just a day after his tenure with the Indian cricket team as assistant coach officially came to a conclusion.

ICC punishes Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas

The ICC has punished Pakistan cricketers Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas. Both cricketers were found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers using words, gestures, or actions that insult, provoke, or could trigger an aggressive reaction from a batter after dismissing them. 

The incident occurred during Pakistan’s recent series-opening first Test against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba this week.
