The Edinburgh Castle Rockers vs Glasgow Cosmic match in the European T20 Premier League saw a massive feat achieved by New Zealand pace veteran Trent Boult.

The Kiwi bowler, representing Edinburgh, rattled the Glasgow batters from top to bottom, registering the best bowling figures of his T20 career.

The 37-year-old previously had best figures of 4/13 in a T20 match. Across 315 games, he had taken 356 wickets at an economy rate of 8.19. However, his performance in the third match of the newly launched European league saw him bag a feat he can cherish forever.

Boult was handed the ball in the very first over of Glasgow's innings and he struck immediately, dismissing opener Jason Roy.

He then found success by picking up Richard Berrington in the 18th over, followed by quick wickets from the lower middle order. He dismissed Ali Khan in the same over before returning in the final over to remove Paul van Meekeren and Lungi Ngidi.

This completed a five-wicket haul for the Mumbai Indians bowler, who conceded just 24 runs from his four-over spell.

The performance also marked a historic milestone in Trent Boult's T20 career, which has spanned several major franchise leagues, including The Hundred, MLC, IPL, SA20, ILT20, BBL and now the ETPL.

Apart from Boult, Jack Jarvis, Mitchell Santner and JJ Smuts also picked up wickets for Rockers as Glasgow were bowled out for just 115 runs at Sportpark Stadium in the Netherlands.

What was Trent Boult's best bowling spell before his ETPL success?

Before the ETPL, Boult's best T20 franchise bowling performance came against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the 2025 Major League Cricket season while representing MI New York.

Boult rattled the Knight Riders' top order in the 24th match of the MLC 2025, dismissing Unmukt Chand, Andre Fletcher and Andre Russell before also sending back Sherfane Rutherford later in the innings. He finished with impressive figures of 4/17 from his four overs, bowling at an economy rate of just 4.25.

What makes the ETPL performance even more significant is that the five-wicket haul is the first of Boult's T20 career, across both international and domestic cricket.

Earlier, against Sri Lanka in 2022, Trent Boult produced a spectacular spell of 4/13 to help dismiss the opposition for just 102 while defending a target of 167. Hence, his latest exploits against Glasgow represents a significant personal milestone in the New Zealand veteran's career.

How has Boult been performing with the ball of late?

Before the ETPL, Boult played for MI London in The Hundred 2026, where he picked up nine wickets from eight innings at an economy rate of 6.70.

In Major League Cricket, he could not make much of an impact, taking only eight wickets from 10 innings. In IPL 2026, Boult was also underwhelming, picking up just two wickets for Mumbai Indians in five matches.

The SA20 was another difficult campaign for Trent Boult, as he claimed eight wickets from 10 matches while bowling at an expensive economy rate of 9.83.

Hence, the ETPL has started on a strong note for Boult, providing him with a much-needed breakthrough with the ball in his franchise cricket career.

At 37 years of age, Boult's last international appearance came in 2024 before he retired from national duties. Since then, he has continued to feature in domestic and franchise cricket, carrying the reputation of one of New Zealand's most accomplished fast bowlers.
