In a phenomenal achievement, Tim Seifert registered the joint-fastest fifty for New Zealand in T20Is against India. The swashbuckling opening batter attained the remarkable feat as he smashed a 25-ball half-century in the fourth T20I between New Zealand and India at ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav invited New Zealand to bat first. The New Zealand openers, Tim Seifert and Devon Conway, made the most of the conditions, setting the foundation for a huge first innings total. While Conway looked fluent during his stay, Seifert brought up a belligerent fifty, thereby recording the joint-fastest T20I half-century for New Zealand against India.

Fastest T20I fifty for New Zealand vs India: Tim Seifert joins Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor

Tim Seifert got a lifeline at the early phase of his innings, as Jasprit Bumrah failed to hold on to a tough running catch near the third-man fence. Seifert, who was batting on nought, capitalised on the opportunity, frustrating India with his 360-degree stroke-play.

He went on to bring up his fifty in just 25 deliveries, registering the joint-fastest half-century for his team against India in T20Is.

As mentioned above, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor had earlier slammed 25-ball fifties against India in Auckland. So, Seifert becomes the first-ever New Zealand batter to replicate a similar feat on Indian soil.

Tim Seifert regains mojo with a ballistic fifty

It's worth mentioning that Tim Seifert is a part of New Zealand's squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. The keeper-batter enjoyed stellar success in 2025, hammering 559 runs across 14 T20I innings at an average of 50.82 and a strike rate of 164.41.

His exploits in international cricket rightfully earned Seifert an IPL contract, with Kolkata Knight Riders securing his services for a price of INR 1.5 crores in the mega auction.

However, he had a shaky start to the all-important T20I series against India, which marks a crucial assignment for the BlackCaps, keeping the T20 World Cup 2026 in mind.

Tim Seifert managed 36 runs in the second and third T20Is combined; so, his fifty in Visakhapatnam serves as a morale-booster for Seifert, who would be keen to make his presence felt in the marquee event next month.

New Zealand are slated to face Afghanistan, the UAE, South Africa and Canada in four group D clashes, and Seifert's recent form could undoubtedly help them fulfil the quest for a maiden T20 World Cup title.

While Tim Seifert clobbered the joint-fastest fifty for New Zealand against India, his opening partner, Devon Conway, departed for a quick-fire 23-ball 44 with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. Riding on the openers' exploits, the BlackCaps were 126 for two in 12 overs, with Seifert and Glenn Phillips batting on 62* and 16*, respectively, as of writing.
