Who Is Suleeporn Laomi? Thailand Star Who Triggered India's Collapse In Women's Asia Cup

Suleeporn Laomi stood up as the chief architect of Thailand Women's impressive bowling effort against India in the Women's Asia Cup 2026 clash in Dubai on August 30. 

The experienced Thailand leg-spinner played a massive role in unsettling India's batting order as the favourites struggled to build momentum. 

Laomi's intervention came at crucial stages of the innings, helping Thailand keep India under pressure and eventually restrict them to 159 in 20 overs. 

Who Is Suleeporn Laomi? Records And Stats 

At 28, Suleeporn Laomi is one of Thailand's most experienced international bowlers and has been a key part of their rise in women's cricket. 

A right-arm leg-spinner, Laomi made her T20I debut against Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur in June 2018 and has since become one of Thailand's leading wicket-takers.

She has played 119 T20Is, taking an impressive 133 wickets at an average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 4.23. Her best figures are 4/9. She has also collected four four-wicket hauls.

In ODIs, Suleeporn Laomi has taken 20 wickets from 15 matches at an average of 19.60 and an economy rate of 4.17. Laomi also owns some remarkable T20I records. 

Her four maidens in a T20I innings are a record in Women’s T20I cricket, where she is a joint holder of the first position. Notably, she also has 12 caught-and-bowled dismissals, the second-most in women's T20Is.

How Laomi Triggered India Women's Collapse?

India's innings was never allowed to become the kind of batting procession many expected. Laomi was central to that resistance as Thailand repeatedly broke India's momentum. 

India were cruising at 91/1 after 8.5 overs, with Shafali Verma and Pratika Rawal threatening to take the game away from Thailand. But Suleeporn Laomi changed the momentum almost immediately, removing Rawal with a slider that beat her and crashed into the stumps.

Laomi then struck again to keep India from rebuilding. She dismissed Shafali Verma, who had raced to a 36-ball 64, before removing Richa Ghosh for a duck in the 13th over.

The collapse was further aided by a crucial run-out of Deepti Sharma done by Laomi, with a direct hit in the 16th over, adding to Thailand's success in the middle overs. 

Hence, her three-wicket burst and solid efforts on the field ensured India's aggressive start did not translate into a massive total as, within 25 runs, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led unit lost 4 wickets.

India, who had been 91/1 after 9 overs, suddenly found themselves losing wickets regularly and were eventually restricted to 159/9 in 20 overs.

Laomi's Exploits Make Her Thailand's One Of The Most Prominent Stars

Laomi's performance against India is hardly a miracle. She has been one of Thailand's most productive bowlers in 2026.

Across 23 T20 matches this year, she has taken 31 wickets, putting her third among Thailand's wicket-takers. Only Thipatcha Puttawong (39) and S Chaturongrattana (33) have taken more.

Laomi has also maintained an impressive economy rate of 4.68, while collecting two four-wicket hauls.

Thailand Women's 2026 campaign has also shown how much the team has developed. After mixed results against stronger sides such as Ireland, Bangladesh, USA and Scotland early in the year, Thailand went on an impressive run through May and June, winning matches against Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Mongolia, Bahrain, Myanmar, Japan, Nepal, Indonesia and the UAE. That improvement provides support to Laomi's emergence. 

For a country still attempting to establish itself among women's cricket's stronger teams, having a 28-year-old spinner with over a hundred T20I wickets is a significant asset. 

Now, Suleeporn Laomi's spell against India showed exactly why sometimes, an upset does not begin with spectacular pace or a mystery spinner but it begins with one experienced bowler repeatedly asking questions until a strong batting line-up finally cracks.
