Bangladesh, under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal, have been reaching new heights of late, both on and off the field. Tamim, who was officially elected BCB President in June, is not only thinking about the present but also about the future.
In another major development, Tamim will soon come to India, specifically to Bengaluru. With the India tour of Bangladesh, originally scheduled to happen in September with three ODIs and three T20Is on hold, the BCB president’s sudden plan to visit India raised many questions.
BCB To Have Centre Of Excellence Just Like Bengaluru
A closed BCB source confirmed to CREX that the Tamim-led Bangladesh board mainly visit Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) to get an idea of a similar foundation to be built in their country. Tamim will take inspiration from there to install Bangladesh’s Centre of Excellence in Purbachal’s National Cricket Ground project.
"The board (BCB) has agreed to complete the Centre of Excellence using BCB funds. We will require government funding for the stadium," Tamim said in a press conference, as confirmed by the BCB source to CREX.

"I had previously mentioned in a press conference that certain changes were needed regarding the design elements for the Centre of Excellence and the stadium. The original design did not fully align with the vision I have for the Centre of Excellence, so we requested Populous to redesign it," he added.
Notably, Tamim shared his vision 10 months ago before even becoming the BCB president.
"If I join the cricket board—whether in a high-ranking position or as a board director—I hope to accomplish one or two significant things for the sport over these four years; a 'Centre of Excellence' is a particularly crucial one among them," he told Prothom Alo.
Tamim Iqbal Keeps His Eyes On 2031 World Cup
The 2031 ODI World Cup, the one after the next edition’s 50-over event, will be hosted by Bangladesh, alongside India. Tamim Iqbal specifically highlighted the importance of the event, and mentioned how much it would mean to him if Bangladesh punch above their weights during the event.
"Bangladesh is set to host the World Cup in 2031—the third-largest sporting event in the world—and the Purbachal Stadium was part of that bidding process. We have initiated discussions with the government and aim to secure the necessary funding quickly," Tamim revealed.
"Procedural delays often hinder important decision-making, but this board has been making decisions very rapidly over the past few months. We plan to complete the Centre of Excellence within two and a half to three years. It will house the BCB offices and feature facilities that meet all international standards," he stated.
Tamim Puts Young Bangladesh Cricketers First Above All
To conclude, Tamim Iqbal mentioned how the CoE in Bangladesh could be more than helpful for the future of the country in terms of cricket.
"I am personally involved in the design and facility planning because I want to give my best to Bangladesh cricket; this will be a major milestone for us. Boards are often judged solely on wins and losses, but infrastructure development is also a key responsibility. Perhaps because the focus was primarily on the game itself, less work was done on facilities in recent years. To me, creating facilities for future cricketers is the top priority," he ended.
BCCI’s CoE, built in India's Bengaluru, is known for having world-class ecosystem services. Bangladesh, under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal, would take all the inspirations from there before making all the decisions regarding the same project in their country.
