Suryakumar Yadav Injury for India - (Source: AFP)
On Sunday, May 24, Mumbai Indians officially ended their IPL 2026 campaign with a defeat against the Rajasthan Royals. The five-time winners suffered a 30-run defeat, and the only positive from that match was Suryakumar Yadav returning to form.
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav is struggling with his form, and it was one of the major reasons why the Mumbai Indians had a bad season. For the unversed, SKY amassed 270 runs in 13 innings, averaging 20.77.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Injury Rumours Surface On Social Media
Amid the dip in form, there were reports flouting on social media that Suryakumar Yadav is nursing a wrist injury, which has hindered his scoring rate, limiting shot options. The report spread like fire on social media and has also casted doubt on SKY’s India future.
India’s T20I captain is 35, and with injury concerns on top of a slump with the bat, it will make things only difficult for the righ-handed batter to make a case for himself for further tours. Therefore, the MI star player has quickly reacted to the allegations.
Suryakumar Yadav Refutes Injury Concerns
After MI’s defeat against Rajasthan Royals, SKY spoke to the broadcasters, where he slammed the fans who have been spreading fake news. The 35-year-old cleared the air and stated that he is perfectly fine to continue.

"First of all, I'd like to clear the air a little bit. The people talking about a wrist injury are either pure physios or people who don't understand cricket. Because if I really had a wrist injury or such a problem, then the shots I've been playing in practice and in matches, especially my flick shots, which are completely wrist-based and depend on hand-eye coordination, I wouldn't have been able to play those shots."
Interestingly, SKY’s knock against Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 60 (42), was itself proof that the 35-year-old is fit. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to play those flick shots.
Suryakumar Yadav’s India Future Under Scrutiny
For Suryakumar Yadav, he is facing the heat for failing to get runs under his belt. Now, after IPL 2026, the focus will be on India's next T20 World Cup cycle, where the reports suggest that the selectors want Shreyas Iyer to lead the side.
One of the primary reasons behind SKY's possible ouster is the lack of runs for Men in Blue. Notably, the selectors were hoping for MI star to have a great IPL season, so that they can back him on that basis. However, the 35-year-old has missed a great opportunity here.

Abhinav's Take On It
After IPL, India will tour UK for three-match T20Is against Ireland and England. Now, here the selectors have an opportunity to try fresh faces, which also means that SKY can be benched on the pretext of giving rest.
However, in reality, it could pave the way for Suryakumar Yadav's India ouster. Therefore, what I feel is that the current India captain has already played his last for the Men in Blue. Unless, Gautam Gambhir fights against the selectors to keep the right-handed batter in the team.
