A top Sri Lankan Airlines official was found dead at the residence of Sri Lanka’s 1996 ICC World Cup winning cricketer Aravinda de Silva. Investigations revealed that Kapila Chandrasena, who is the former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines was found by the police in an unconscious state at the residence based in Kollupitiya.
Notably, both Chandrasena and Aravinda were also brothers-in-law and their families are closely connected. Several Sri Lanka media outlets are reporting that the primarily investigations revealed the cause of death to be that of a suicide.
Sri Lanka official accused in bribe case found dead
Kapila Chandrasena was found dead at the residence of former Sri Lanka cricketer Aravinda de Silva. His body was discovered by the police at the house based in Pedris Place in Kollupitiya in the early hours of Friday, May 8.
Even though earlier investigations claimed that the death may have been a suicide, a post-mortem examination is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.

It is worth noting that Chandrasena was previously involved in a series of allegations involving a US$2.3 billion aircraft procurement deal. The allegations put him as an accused for accepting a US$2 million bribe through a shell company.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate had already issued a warrant for his arrest, doing so just a day before his death.
How was Kapila Chandrasena related to Aravinda de Silva?
It is reported that Kapila Chandrasena arrived to the residence of Aravinda de Silva on Thursday, May 7. Both Chandrasena and Aravinda are brothers-in-law, considering the two were married to sisters Priyanka Neomali Wijenayake and Anushka de Silva.
After news of his death, former Sri Lanka captain and Silva’s ex-national teammate Arjuna Ranatunga also rushed to the scene.
Aravinda de Silva at the centre of a tragic incident
Aravinda de Silva has now unexpectedly found himself at the centre of attention following the shocking developments that emerged from his residence in Kollupitiya.
One of the greatest batters produced by Sri Lanka, he was part of his nation’s 1996 ICC Men’s World Cup winning side in Pakistan. Moreover, the cricketer scored a match-winning century in the final against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Chasing 242 and slipping to 23-2 in a tense final, the prolific middle-order batter composed a regal 107* off 124 balls with 13 elegant boundaries. His partnership with captain Arjuna Ranatunga steered Sri Lanka to a comprehensive seven-wicket win in just 46.2 overs.
Having made his international debut in March 1984 with an ODI against New Zealand, the batting all-rounder went on to play 93 Tests and 308 ODIs for his country, aggregating over 15,000 runs in the process at healthy batting averages in both formats.
He listed 31 international centuries, and 86 half-centuries. The Sri Lankan great also picked up 135 wickets with the ball in Tests and ODIs combined. Aravinda de Silva played the final international match of his career in the semifinal of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
