Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named the South Africa A squad for a multi-format tour of England next month, where they will take on England Lions in a series of red-ball and 50-over matches.

The tour, scheduled from 22 May to 9 June, will feature two four-day matches and three One-Day fixtures. Dolphins batter Marques Ackerman has been appointed captain for the entire tour, as the SA A side looks to gain valuable experience in English conditions ahead of a busy home international summer.

Familiar Faces Make A Comeback In SA A Squad

Cricket South Africa has officially announced the South Africa A (SA A) squad for the upcoming tour of England against England Lions. As stated earlier, Marques Ackerman will lead the side across both formats.

The squad sees the return of several key players, including seamer Dane Paterson, who has been recalled to the national setup.

Jordan Hermann makes a comeback to the four-day squad following his recovery from a hamstring injury, while Proteas batter Tony de Zorzi and recent sensation Ottneil Baartman have also been included. Dolphins fast bowler Nqobani Mokoena has earned his maiden call-up to the SA A team.

South Africa A Full Squad For England Lions Tour

The touring party blends a strong core of consistent SA A performers with fresh talent and returning players.

Head coach Wandile Gwavu emphasized the importance of giving established players exposure to English conditions while providing opportunities for others to continue their development.

“This tour is a great chance for that group to test themselves in English conditions, and we know that someone like Dane brings a wealth of experience in those conditions. I’m looking forward to seeing him alongside Ottneil as we build towards a busy home summer and the opportunities it presents at Proteas level.

“A number of the one-day squad members were part of the recent T20 series against New Zealand, and this tour gives them another opportunity to keep learning, adapt to different conditions and grow their own game,” Wandile said in a statement.

Dane Paterson’s experience in English conditions is expected to be a vital asset, particularly in partnership with the highly-rated Ottneil Baartman.
