India's historic Women's World Cup victory continues to bring memorable moments beyond the cricket field, with Smriti Mandhana sharing a heartwarming interaction involving former India captain MS Dhoni.

The Indian opener revealed how a message from the legendary cricketer followed the team's landmark achievement, making the occasion even more special for her. The interaction also highlighted the wider significance of India's triumph and the impact it could have on the future of women's cricket in the country.

MS Dhoni's message to Smriti Mandhana after India's World Cup win

Smriti Mandhana recently opened up about a special message she received from MS Dhoni following India's maiden Women's ODI World Cup triumph in 2025. The two cricketers met at Gulf Oil's 125th-anniversary celebration, where they attended the event as brand ambassadors.

During the interaction, Mandhana recalled how MS Dhoni reached out to congratulate her after India's historic achievement. What made the gesture particularly memorable was her understanding that the former India captain rarely sends messages on his phone.

"Please wish everyone part of this win," Dhoni wrote in the message.

Mandhana was delighted to receive the message, which reflected Dhoni's appreciation for the collective effort behind India's World Cup success. His words carried significance for a team that had spent years working towards winning its first Women's ODI World Cup.

India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai in November 2025 to lift their maiden Women's ODI World Cup trophy. The victory marked a defining moment for the women's team, ending India's long wait for a world title in the 50-over format.

Smriti Mandhana's World Cup contribution and new role as India captain

Mandhana played a significant role in India's successful World Cup campaign, finishing as the team's leading run-scorer. She accumulated 434 runs across nine matches at an average of 54.25, with her tally featuring one century and two half-centuries.

The World Cup success has since been followed by another major milestone in Mandhana's career. In October 2026, she was appointed India's new women's team captain after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down from the position.

Mandhana made a winning start to her captaincy tenure, guiding India to a 3-0 clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the ODI series. The result provided an encouraging beginning to her new responsibility as she looks to lead the side into its next phase.
