How do franchises earn in the IPL ecosystem?
Cricket is one of the fastest-growing industries in the sporting ecosystem, with the Indian Premier League as its gold-egg-laying hen.
The BCCI, the showrunners of the IPL, has branded the league in such a way that it is seen as a cricketing festival across markets.
Year on year, IPL’s value and publicity have only increased, with its value reportedly reaching $20.6 billion in 2026.
The Indian board sells the media rights and other commercial deals at roof-shattering numbers. The board distributes 50% of the share equally among all ten franchises.
Meanwhile, the franchises have other avenues, such as gate money and sponsorships.
