Ireland leg-spinner Ben White has brought his cricketing career to an end at the age of 28, closing a chapter that saw him represent his country across international formats and major tournaments.

The wrist-spinner leaves the game after making his mark in Ireland's bowling attack, particularly in T20 cricket. His retirement brings an end to a journey that began with the Ireland Wolves before taking him to the international stage.

Ben White calls time on international career at just 28

Ben White concludes his international career with 41 wickets across Tests, ODIs and T20Is for Ireland. His final appearance for the national side came against Bangladesh in December 2025, bringing his time in international cricket to a close.

The leg-spinner first entered Ireland's wider cricket setup through the Ireland Wolves' tour of Bangladesh in early 2021. He made his senior international debut later that year and gradually established himself as a bowling option across formats.

White's international journey also included appearances in three ICC Men's T20 World Cups, featuring in the 2021, 2024 and 2026 editions. However, the shortest format proved to be his strongest suit, with his variations and ability to deceive batters helping him maintain an impressive wicket-taking record.

In T20 internationals, White claimed a wicket approximately every 20 balls. One of his most memorable performances came against Afghanistan in 2024, when he returned career-best figures of 4/20.

White also represented several teams in Ireland's domestic circuit, including Leinster Lightning, Northern Knights, Munster Reds, Phoenix and CSNI.

He finished as the leading wicket-taker in the 2021 Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy with 17 wickets. He also delivered a decisive performance in the 2024 Irish Senior Cup final, claiming 5/34 to help his side secure victory.

Ben White reflects on his Ireland journey

Looking back on his career, Ben White expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to represent Ireland and fulfil a childhood ambition.

"I’d like to thank Cricket Ireland for giving me the opportunity to fulfil a childhood dream of representing my country and playing cricket at the highest level," White said.

"Representing Ireland at three ICC T20 World Cups and playing Test cricket definitely wasn’t on the bingo card, but it’s something I’ll always be incredibly proud of," White added.

It is important to note that although retirement from all forms of cricket at just 28 years of age is shocking, White hasn't shared any particular reason behind his decision.

His retirement now marks the end of an international career that featured appearances across all three formats, multiple T20 World Cups and several notable performances in Ireland's domestic competitions.
