England started their three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with an 11-run victory in a rain-affected match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday, January 30. The match was shortened to 17 overs per side due to rain, and the result was decided using the DLS method.

Sri Lanka were sent in to bat first after rain delayed the start. They made a positive beginning and looked in control during the early stages.

Openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka put together a solid partnership, taking the score to 76 for one in just seven overs.

However, England’s spin bowler Adil Rashid changed the momentum of the game. He dismissed both set batters and also removed Dhananjaya de Silva, finishing with impressive figures of three wickets for 19 runs.

Sam Curran then finished the innings in dramatic fashion. Bowling the 16th over, Curran claimed a hat-trick, becoming only the second England player, after Chris Jordan, to achieve the feat in T20Is.

In reply, England made a steady start and kept up with the required run rate. They reached 125 for four in 15 overs when rain returned and forced the match to be stopped. At that point, England were well ahead of the DLS target and were declared winners by 11 runs.

The second match will be played on Sunday, February 1, at the same venue in Pallekele. In this article, let's take a look at the head-to-head record for the 2nd T20I.
