In a recent development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a new domestic T20 tournament following the team's removal from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
The tournament, named the ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026, will begin on February 5 and is aimed at keeping players match-fit and motivated.
Bangladesh were removed from the upcoming T20 World Cup after refusing to travel to India due to security concerns. Scotland was later named as Bangladesh’s replacement.
While the decision was accepted officially, the players were left disappointed after losing a major international assignment just weeks before the tournament.
BCB considers compensation for players missing T20 WC
The Youth and Sports Ministry secretary, Mahbub-Ul-Alam, spoke to the media during an event. He was asked whether Bangladesh players would receive compensation after missing the T20 World Cup due to security concerns.
Mahbub said the government is working on the issue - "We are certainly working on this matter [compensation]. While security is our primary concern, we have discussed the financial aspects and are planning to organise an alternative tournament within the country," Mahbub said.
He added that the tournament would include members of the T20 squad along with other leading players and would be held during the same period as the World Cup.
A BCB director told The Daily Star that all decisions regarding the tournament would be finalised by February 1.

The group-stage matches will be played on February 5, 6 and 7, while the final is scheduled for February 9.
Each match day will begin with a cultural program at 4:00 PM, followed by the cricket match starting at 6:00 PM.
BCB has announced a total prize money of BDT 2.5 crore, along with match fees for players, to ensure the competition remains competitive and not just a friendly series.
"Three teams will feature in this exciting competition with prize money and fees worth Taka 2.5 Crore," a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"We will be giving match fees along with other things. We are expecting to announce a good amount as prize money and all these efforts are taken to make sure that the tournament is competitive," said the official.
