Punjab Kings have been humiliatingly kicked out of the IPL 2026 after a string of defeats, and Rajasthan Royals essentially grabbed the Top 4 spot.

While the Shreyas Iyer-led team had been having the best of their best time with early-season wins, they fell flat on their faces after a horrible turnaround.

This ominous exit from IPL 2026 has also led to a severe backlash on Shreyas Iyer’s sister on her social media handles; however, days after the exit, the PBKS skipper himself broke his silence with a ‘positive’ reaction on his Instagram handle.

Punjab Kings’ Poor Exit From IPL 2026

Punjab Kings finished their league stage with 15 points, and Rajasthan qualified with 16 points in the top four place to fight in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While Punjab looked strong early in the season with a long streak of wins, fate laughed at the IPL 2025 runners-up, handing them a string of consecutive defeats that ultimately left them desperate for other teams’ results.

Nevertheless, things didn’t go their way at the end, and despite ending the season on a high against LSG, Punjab had to bow out of the tournament. After the exit, Shreyas Iyer shared an emotional post on his Instagram handle on May 26.

Shreyas Iyer Shares Emotional Post On Instagram

Taking to his official social media handle, Iyer shared a collage of pictures in a video reel as he also shared an emotional caption with it. “Every run. Every moment. Every fight. This chapter closes with gratitude, and the next one begins with hunger,” Iyer wrote.

The video also had Iyer’s own voice in it that says, ‘Chardi Kalaa’ (High Spirits), indicating the fact that the Punjab Kings are taking the loss as a lesson and will come back stronger in IPL 2027.

The post instantly went viral and reached 231K likes within 45 minutes of posting. Fans and followers also rained down love and support in the comment section, praising their ‘Sarpanch Saab’.

Conclusion: Did PBKS Deserve The IPL 2026 Exit?

For what it's worth, Punjab was a terrorising team during the very first two weeks of the tournament. The team looked to have everything right on their part with batting and bowling acing everyday.

The Shreyas Iyer-led team was invincible with an unbeaten streak, only to have the bowling attack falter for once on April 28 against RR. That triggered a massive collapse and had the bowling department beaten all ends up.

Truly, Punjab at least deserved a playoff spot in IPL 2026, given the strength they possessed and the form they showed early in the season. The downfall seemed unlikely. Hopefully, PBKS will regroup under Ricky Ponting and will come back stronger in the next edition.

However, one thing is for sure. From a team that was never in contention for even a playoff spot, Punjab have come a long way to be a deserving champion of the IPL title itself.
