Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube has come under intense scrutiny after dropping an important catch during India's 56-run defeat to England in the 5th T20I at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The missed opportunity proved to be a turning point in the contest, with Chennai legend Kris Srikkanth launching a scathing attack on Dube's overall performance and questioning his place in the national side.

Moreover, India's tour of England ended on a disappointing note as the visitors failed to register a single victory, losing the five-match T20I series 4-0, with one game ending in a washout.

Kris Srikkanth slams Shivam Dube's fielding display

Reacting to the dropped catch incident on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth did not hold back in his criticism.

Notably, the former India opener questioned Dube's place in the Indian T20I squad and remarked that the missed opportunity proved costly, adding that the outcome could have been very different for both Prince Yadav and Team India had the catch been taken.

"It is impossible to do anything with Shivam Dube on the field. He is running circles around the ball. How can you ever win a match with his fielding? He keeps leaving goals, be it in the IPL or in international cricket. It's a joke that he is an international cricketer and an all-rounder," Srikkanth said.

He further added: "Prince Yadav's analysis got ruined only because of Dube's drop. Not only does he drop the catch, he falls to the ground along with the ball. Things could have been different for Prince and India if Dube just took that catch."

Shivam Dube's missed chance gave Harry Brook a lifeline

Talking about the incident, India made a promising start after dismissing Philip Salt early in England's innings.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically during the powerplay when Shivam Dube failed to hold on to what appeared to be a straightforward catch offered by England captain Harry Brook.

The incident occurred in the sixth over when Prince Yadav bowled a short delivery outside the off stump. Brook attempted an across-the-line shot but managed only a thick top edge. The ball soared high into the air, seemingly presenting Dube with a comfortable opportunity.

However, Dube misjudged the trajectory while backtracking. As the ball held up due to the windy conditions, he failed to position himself correctly, and the chance slipped through his hands, allowing Brook to survive and collect two runs.

That reprieve eventually proved expensive, as Brook capitalized on the lifeline and took control of the innings.

Harry Brook makes India pay after Shivam Dube's costly error

Meanwhile, Brook made India pay dearly for the missed chance, remaining unbeaten on 95 off 45 deliveries and guiding England to a commanding 257/3 in 20 overs.

Notably, Dube's outing worsened as he conceded 22 runs in his lone over despite claiming two late wickets. Later, during India's chase, he managed only 14 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed.

Overall, Shivam Dube endured a forgettable England leg. Across the series, he scored 85 runs at a strike rate of 130. With the ball, he picked up only two wickets in three innings while conceding runs at an economy rate of 15.67.
