The Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings game on March 29 in PSL 2026 was a low-scoring thriller that had more drama than one can expect from a match.
From ball tampering accusations, a five-run penalty, to a monumental turnover of the match in the PSL thriller, Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi could only bluntly soak in the loss.
Lahore Qalandars Charged With Ball-Tampering In PSL 2026
As Karachi Kings bagged a thrilling victory, Qalandars were thrown into the face of a serious question as Shaheen Afridi had to bear the brunt of the ball tampering issue.
The final over of Karachi Kings' innings, where they needed nine runs from six deliveries, had earlier seen them requiring 14 runs from six deliveries before Haris Rauf was handed the ball.
The on-field umpire, Faisal Afridi, signalled five penalty runs for Karachi Kings as Qalandars changed the condition of the ball.
Adding and compounding to the wound, Qalandars were also slow in the over rate, and they had to field an extra fielder inside the 30-yard ring, hence boiling down the equation to nine from six deliveries.
Although Rauf got Khushdil Shah on the first ball, Abbas Afridi brought an end to the game with a boundary and a six in the next two deliveries.

Shaheen Afridi Opens Up On Ball-Tamepring Issue
What might have caused the loss for Qalandars in the PSL match, was the ball-tampering penalty, for which Shahid Afridi has now expressed unfamiliarity with the changes in the condition of the ball.
After the match, Shaheen Afridi also distanced himself from any change in the ball's condition as he stepped back from making any claim regarding it.
"I don't know about this [ball tampering], and we'll discuss. Five runs penalty...but we can't say anything. We will see," said Shaheen at the post-match presentation.
Shaheen Afridi spoke on the overall team's performance, though, as he argued that their team did a good job with the batting while citing Kings' struggle in chasing down the 129-run target.
“Actually both batting sides are same. They also chased it in the final over. 120-odd is what you can chase in 15 overs. I can say that our batters tried,” Afridi added.
How The Qalandars vs Kings PSL 2026 Drama Shape Up?
Coming in to bat first, Qalandars scored 128 with contributions from Abdullah Shafique, Asif Ali, and Sikandar Raza, while Karachi Kings' bowlers Moeen Ali, Mir Hamza, and Adam Zampa convincingly took two wickets each to run through Qalandars' top and middle order.
Karachi Kings, in reply, had Mohammad Wasim stand up and fight with resilience, while the lower-middle order consisting of Saad Baig, Moeen Ali, Azam Khan, among others, helped close the chase.
The skipper, Shaheen Afridi of Qalandars, though, took four wickets and did his part while bowling at an economy of 4.57 and scalping important wickets of David Warner, Muhammad Waseem, and Salman Ali Agha.
Nevertheless, this loss for Qalandars will have them placed in the second position of the PSL 2026 points table, where they post a solid positive net run rate of 1.567. Karachi Kings, meanwhile, now top the table with two wins out of two while having a net run rate of +0.524.
