An absolute hara-kiri has been committed in Pakistan cricket ever since an explosive interview by Imran Khan's sons was aired during the lunch break on Day 1 of the Lord's Test against England. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Sarfaraz Ahmed has added his bit in the saga.
As the interview went live, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tried to threaten England and the broadcasters with the boycott card, which has become pretty relevant under Mohsin Naqvi's tenure.
However, Pakistan’s head coach, Sarfaraz Ahmed, has made a massive revelation regarding the incident.

After Day 2, when Pakistan were pushed even deeper into the waters by the home team, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed denied that his team had any idea about the explosive interview by Imran Khan’s sons, who pleaded for their father on humanitarian grounds.
As a media representative asked Sarfaraz about PCB having a conversation with ECB over the Sky Sports’ interview of Imran Khan’s sons, the head coach dodgingly said, “I don’t know anything. I am just focusing on the match.”

He added, “No, no, no! Are you talking about the interview? We don’t know anything about the interview. All were OK, we were having our lunch at that time.”
Is ECB doing the right thing in Imran Khan row?
The legendary Imran Khan has been in a Pakistani prison since August 2023, a year after his Prime Ministerial stint came to an end abruptly. He has been alleged to be involved in corruption cases during his tenure as the country’s PM, and thus he was sentenced to imprisonment.
However, with his health deteriorating, the Supreme Court ordered that the 73-year-old be moved to a hospital in Islamabad, but he was fast-tracked back to prison after a medical check-up.
There is usually an unsaid notion that sport shouldn't be involved in politics, but Imran Khan’s case is different. The legendary all-rounder, who not only popularised cricket back home but also helped Pakistan lift its only ODI World Cup during the underdog story of 1992, has apparently been neglected in jail with his health taking a toll.
Thus, ECB’s move the allow an interview with the former cricketer’s sons is a great initiative.
Pat Cummins joins hands with 22 former captains in signing petition for Imran Khan
Moreover, as Imran Khan's case is picking up among the cricketing fraternity, Australian captain Pat Cummins also hands with the 22 former captains, who have written to current Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif.
They are urging for a proper medical care and the restoration of family visitation rights for the jailed cricketer.
“Adding my support here to GC and the other former international captains. I hope the court ordered medical assessment be allowed to run its course, and that family visits continue. I hope Imran Khan is treated with the dignity anyone deserves," Pat Cummins pleaded while posting on X.
Among the 22 former cricketers, India's Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Dilip Vengsarkar are among the signatories on the petition. Meanwhile, there are seven apiece from England and Australia, two New Zealanders and one each from the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
However, no Pakistani captain is among the 22 former captains. That said, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis had voiced their support for their former captain/mentor earlier this year.
