Jagadeesan scores century against USA [Source: X]
India A is taking on the USA ahead of the T20 World Cup, and while the core Indian players are resting and not taking part in the game, several domestic stars are showcasing their talent, and one of them is Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan. The talented player opened the batting for India A alongside Priyansh Arya and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
On a flat DY Patil Stadium wicket, the opening batter made a mockery of the USA attack and smashed them all around the park to register a 49-ball hundred in India’s warm-up fixture. His stellar innings included 11 fours and 5 sixes as the USA side had no answer to his onslaught.
India keeper scores century in World Cup match; Samson's place in jeopardy
Narayan Jagadeesan added 43 runs for the opening wicket alongside Arya, and he played second fiddle in the partnership. However, once his partner departed, the batter switched gears as he raced away to his century in quick time.
With Ishan Kishan firing all guns blazing at the international stage, and Jagadeesan doing wonders in A games, Sanju Samson could eventually be sidelined by the Indian team for the future tours. The Kerala batter failed in the five-match series against the Kiwis, and India could look at the Tamil Nadu batter as the second keeper alongside Kishan.
Can Jagadeesan break into India T20I team?
Realistically, India does have numerous keeping options, and two of them are Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, and both players will be a part of the T20 World Cup 2026. However post the marquee event, India could witness a change in guard.
Samson was picked in the India T20I squad over Shubman Gill and was also promoted at top of the order. However, in the five-game series against New Zealand, the opener scored only 46 runs and flopped badly with the bat.
In the same series, Ishan Kishan was recalled to the team and he ended the tour with more than 200-plus runs, including a stellar century in the 5th T20I. At the moment, Kishan looks to be the first-choice keeper, but post the T20 World Cup, India could replace Samson with Jagadeesan and make him an integral member of the squad.
India A dominate against USA
Batting first, the India A batters relished the challenge against the USA, and piled up 238/3 in their allotted 20 overs. At the top, Priyansh Arya scored 28 off 13 and gave a fiery start to the Men in Blue.
Alongside him, Jagadeesan tormented the bowlers as he scored 104 off 55 balls, with a strike rate of 189. He was well-accompanied by Tilak Varma and Ayush Badoni.
While Varma, on his return, scored a brisk 38, Badoni showed his class and gave finishing touches as he slammed a brilliant 26-ball 60 and helped India post a mammoth total which the team will fancy defending.
