Rinku Singh continues to knock on selector’s doors for a possible place in Team India’s Test squad. Mere days after expressing his desire to play Test cricket, the hard-hitting middle-order batter charted his second successive century of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.

While the cricketer scored 112 runs during Uttar Pradesh’s 540-run epic against Bihar last week in Rajgir, the 29-year-old has now plundered a sensational hundred while batting with the tail against Goa in Kanpur.

Rinku Singh rescues Uttar Pradesh with statement Ranji Trophy ton

Batting at number five for Uttar Pradesh against Goa in Kanpur in match number 30 of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, Rinku Singh raced to a sensational century from 155 balls with 10 boundaries and two huge sixes.

Notably, the cricketer scored the bulk of his runs while batting with the tail, after having arrived to the crease within the opening hour of the match at 33-3. While he shared a 57-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Madhav Kaushik, Rinku kept losing partners from the other end until finding able support from number 11 Vansh Chaudhary at 137-9.

The innings marked Rinku’s second successive hundred in two innings of the ongoing 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, and also the 11th of his first-class career. Interestingly, the cricketer has now charted four Ranji Trophy centuries in a row, after hammering down two tons in his only two innings of last year’s 2025-26 season.

Four centuries in a row, and still no place for Rinku Singh in Test side

Often considered a T20 specialist, Rinku Singh holds staggering averages of above 50 in first-class as well as in List A cricket. Moreover, in first-class matches alone, the cricketer averages close to 60 after playing 55 matches.

Just a few days ago, he expressed his ambitions of playing Test cricket for India and sought to dispel the perception that he is a T20 specialist.

During the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy last year, the prolific middle-order batter plundered scores of 176 against Tamil Nadu and 165* against Andhra to bag two ‘Player of the Match’ awards in his only two appearances of the season.

After starting off the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy with a scorching 112 off 168 balls against Bihar, his century against Goa this weekend demonstrated even more grit and steel, as he guided Uttar Pradesh through a precarious position while batting with the tail.
