India’s five-match T20I series against the West Indies concluded with a damp-squib affair in Bengaluru on October 17. With the rain-soddened outcome, both teams shared the series honours 2-2.

As has been Team India’s tradition for a while, the team management once again handed out its customary ‘Impact Player of the Series’ award in the dressing room during its post-series ceremony.

Shreyas Iyer wins ‘Impact Player of the Series’ for West Indies heroics

Team India followed its dressing room tradition after the conclusion of yet another series, this time after levelling with West Indies in Bengaluru. As part of the tradition, India’s training assistant Nuwan Seneviratne named captain Shreyas Iyer as the winner of the ‘Impact Player of the Series’ medal during the team’s dressing room celebration after the fifth T20I.

In a video shared by the BCCI on their official website, Seneviratne praised captain Iyer for scoring his first T20I century in the series and for leading his side from the front throughout the series.

The former Sri Lankan cricketer and India’s training assistant said “He got his first T20I hundred in this series, and is one of only a handful of Indian players to score centuries in all formats. And from leading from the front and on the field, the award goes to Shreyas Iyer.”

The India captain accepted the honor with a wide smile as his side successfully managed to level its high-scoring five-match series against the visitors.

How did Shreyas Iyer fare in the series against West Indies

Shreyas Iyer aggregated 181 runs in five innings of the series against the West Indies team this month. The cricketer started off the series with a splendid match-winning century in Lucknow.

The prolific right-handed batter whacked 102* runs off just 43 balls to notch up his maiden T20I century, thus becoming only the seventh Indian player in history to score centuries in all three formats of the game.

He also slapped a quick 18-ball 40 in Rachi, and bludgeoned 22 off just 14 balls in the series-deciding fifth T20I match in Bengaluru. Iyer’s astute leadership skills also fetched Team India comprehensive wins in Lucknow and Indore.

All in all, Iyer’s all-round impact with both bat and leadership made him a fitting choice for the ‘Impact Player of the Series’ award.
