Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has backed all-rounder Krunal Pandya for an India comeback. This comes amid the return of experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Notably, Bhuvneshwar got recalled into the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand series after a hiatus of 4 years. Not only that, but he also joined the team in Bengaluru for the 5th T20I vs West Indies.

Sunil Gavaskar wants Krunal Pandya back in national colours

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s comeback generated massive buzz as fans were happy to see the veteran back after consistent performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. Amid this, Sunil Gavaskar has voted for another veteran’s comeback.

Speaking on JioHotstar, Gavaskar said that all-rounder Krunal Pandya also deserves another opportunity to play for India because of his recent performances for RCB in the IPL.

"Outstanding cricketer, really one of the smart cricketers that we've seen. Somebody,dy you see his bowling. He's not a big turner of the ball, but he mixes his line, mixes his lengths so smartly, he reads the batter's mind, bowls at the pads," Gavaskar said.

The ex-legend believes Krunal's tactical intelligence, bowling skills, batting ability and fielding make him a valuable option for India's white-ball setup. And his recent stats only prove that he is ready to don the national colours again.

"You've seen him bowl the odd bouncer as well, so he's always thinking and plotting against the batter, if not to get him out, at least to restrict him. And then as a batter, as a fielder in the deep, he's an outstanding cricketer, and I do believe that if you want to win the World Cups, you just go with the guys who you think will win the World Cup," he added.

Krunal Pandya’s recent rise in domestic and IPL tournaments

Notably, Sunil Gavaskar’s plea is backed by solid stats. In IPL 2025, Krunal Pandya picked up 17 at 8.23 economy while also scoring 109 runs. That year, RCB won its maiden title.

Later in IPL 2026, Pandya got 14 wickets with 226 runs scored and played a pivotal role in RCB’s title-defending campaign. Apart from this, Krunal is also an excellent fielder.

However, in the present set-up, Krunal Pandya’s India comeback looks unlikely. India have several options in the spin-bowling all-rounder category such as Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.

Hence, while Krunal Pandya would be a valuable addition to any squad whatsoever, he’ll have to wait for this comeback opportunity. For now, his primary goal should be to keep performing consistently.
