Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is set to be appointed as a Regional Sports Officer (RSO) by the Uttar Pradesh government just days ahead of the commencement of the brand new IPL 2026 season.
This government job is a reward for Rinku’s meteoric rise on the field and his contribution to winning the T20 World Cup 2026, where he performed despite facing a deep personal crisis.
Rinku Singh to be rewarded with a government job
Just days ahead of the IPL 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to reward Indian cricketer Rinku Singh with the job of Regional Sports Officer (RSO).
Rinku Singh is rewarded for being a part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 winning squad. He participated in the event despite the demise of his father, thus showing an unreal commitment.
Apart from the job, the UP government is also giving a ₹1.64 crore cash reward distributed among 14 players and ₹8.75 lakh in assistance to 19 players.
The ceremony of his felicitation event will be held soon at the Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hand over job letters and honour the athletes, including Rinku Singh.

UP government to honour 6 athletes
That being said, Rinku Singh is not the only one to be rewarded. A total of 6 international medal-winning athletes will get jobs.
Rajkumar Pal, part of India’s bronze medal-winning hockey team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, will be appointed as DSP.
Praveen Kumar, Paralympic gold medallist, will also get the DSP role. Ajit Singh and Simran will be appointed as District Panchayat Raj Officers, while Preetipal will get the Block Development Officer role.
Apart from jobs, the Lakshman and Rani Lakshmibai awards will also be given to athletes who performed exceptionally well in their respective fields.
Rinku Singh’s form is a concern ahead of IPL 2026
Meanwhile, KKR will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium. However, Rinku Singh is becoming a talking point due to his poor form.
After a stellar 2023 season, Rinku’s form dipped in 2024 and 2025, where he scored just 374 runs in 22 innings. He didn’t capitalise on opportunities and even played limited matches in international cricket.
But this year, Rinku Singh needs to maximise every chance he gets now. Also, despite criticism, Rinku’s death-over stats are elite. He hit at a 287 strike rate in the last 2 overs.
Overall, Rinku Singh needs to be more consistent, must deliver in bigger moments and has to own the finisher role fully to achieve success for KKR in IPL 2026.
If he gets going, KKR will definitely end up being the primary contenders for the IPL 2026 title trophy.
