In the embarrassing 76-run defeat against South Africa, Jasprit Bumrah’s economical and wicket-taking performance was one of the very few positives for Team India. Apart from him and Arshdeep Singh, most of the bowlers struggled to contain the Proteas batters in the first innings.

Meanwhile, what’s attracting the eyeballs of the cricket fans and their reactions are the aftereffects of India’s horrible outing against South Africa in their first Super-8 game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2025. The fans are left to assume the rifts within the Indian cricket team following a heavy loss to the Proteas.

Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel reach airport separately, avoid team bus

In a shocking development, the senior members of the team, vice-captain Axar Patel and the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, arrived at Ahmedabad airport separately. Both the players joined the team on the flight to Chennai, where they will play their next Super-8 game against Zimbabwe.

On the other hand, the remaining players of the team, including Suryakumar Yadav, reached the Ahmedabad airport in the team bus. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, along with the other support staff, were also on the team bus with the players.

The fans also came up with mixed reactions after noticing Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel’s separate arrivals at the Ahmedabad airport in their personal capacity, rather than boarding the team bus.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Apart from this, the arrival of India’s team bus at Ahmedabad has also caught the attention as the Indian players looked sad when they deboarded the bus at the airport to catch the flight to Chennai.

None of the team members was seen talking to each other, as all headed straight to the boarding gate after getting off the bus. The visuals at Ahmedabad airport have left the fans with a lot of assumptions about the dressing room environment after the defeat against South Africa.

“We will learn from it” - Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav after Ahmedabad debacle

After losing the game against South Africa, the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav spoke at length about the moments where the team lost grip in the contest against the Proteas. He also praised the Indian bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, for the brilliant results in the powerplay.

“We were always in the game when we started. Bowled really well in the beginning. From 7-15, they batted really well and then we came back. Bowled really well but could have batted better. Sometimes, you have to think you cannot win the game in the powerplay but you can lose it,” said Suryakumar Yadav during the post-match presentation.

“Did not have the partnerships we needed. Part of the game. We will learn from it. Sit back and bounce back. (On Arshdeep and Bumrah) Everyone knows their combination has been lethal.”

“Both bowled eight overs, picked five wickets and gave up 45-50 runs. They bowl well in partnerships, and it's good to have them on our side,” he added later.

Notably, the remaining two Super-8 games against Zimbabwe and West Indies have now become the do-or-die contests for India to stay alive in contention for the tournament’s knockout stage.
