Punjab Kings had a worrisome IPL 2026 season not only because of their latest five consecutive defeats, but also due to their poor fielding efforts.

The campaign has been marred by costly errors in the field, with Shashank Singh dropping multiple sitters, while several other fielders have also been guilty of sloppy mistakes.

In the latest howler, Arshdeep Singh grabbed attention after Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting appeared furious on the sidelines.

Ricky Ponting Angry With Arshdeep Singh's Fielding Efforts

During the RCB vs PBKS clash in Dharamsala on May 17, the premier pacer produced a major fielding lapse that nearly saw Ponting lose his cool completely.

The moment unfolded when Arshdeep failed to stop a straightforward ball in the deep, allowing RCB extra runs, leaving the Punjab Kings camp visibly frustrated.

Ponting’s animated reaction from the dugout quickly went viral on social media, with fans pointing toward Punjab’s recurring fielding issues as one of the biggest reasons behind their disappointing IPL 2026 campaign.

Ricky Ponting Bites Nails In Anger As Arshdeep Clears RCB For a Boundary

The incident occurred on the second ball of the 13th over when Lockie Ferguson was bowling to Venkatesh Iyer.

Batting for RCB, the Rajat Patidar-less side was in a commanding position, with Iyer looking confident at the crease after arriving following the fall of two wickets, while Virat Kohli continued to anchor the innings steadily.

On the delivery, Ferguson bowled a full ball on the middle-stump line. Iyer made room and drilled it fiercely towards mid-off.

Although the shot was struck hard, Arshdeep Singh attempted to stop it by going down low, but failed to collect the ball cleanly as it slipped through his legs and raced away for four runs.

The costly misfield handed easy boundaries to RCB and added further frustration for the Punjab Kings.

As soon as the ball crossed the boundary ropes, the cameras focused on Arshdeep Singh, whose expression reflected immediate regret.

Moments later, the broadcast shifted towards Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting, who looked visibly furious in the dugout.

Ricky Ponting, who had already expressed frustration earlier in the season over Punjab’s repeated fielding lapses, including criticism directed at Shashank Singh’s sloppy efforts, appeared extremely angry after Arshdeep Singh's mistake and was seemingly close to lashing out before controlling his emotions.

RCB In Control

At the current stage of the game, RCB are firmly in control, crossing the 180-run mark within 17 overs thanks to a solid partnership between Iyer and Kohli.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs, with only Harpreet Brar picking up two wickets and Yuzvendra Chahal managing one scalp at the time of writing.

Arshdeep’s Worrying IPL 2026 Form

Speaking about Arshdeep’s overall form, the left-arm pacer has not been at his best this IPL season. In 12 matches, he has managed only 13 wickets while conceding runs at an expensive economy rate of 9.61.

His strike rate of 22.00 has also raised concerns within the Punjab Kings camp, especially with the franchise fighting for a must-win result against RCB to keep their playoff hopes alive.
