Virat Kohli once again proved why he is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the IPL. Punjab Kings (PBKS) is playing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 61 of the IPL 2026 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

In the PBKS vs RCB match, the star player Virat Kohli scripted several records on Sunday. It is important to note that the PBKS captain, Shreyas Iyer, won the toss in his 100th match as captain and opted to bowl first.

PBKS made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in Harpreet Brar and Lockie Ferguson. Meanwhile, RCB appointed Jitesh Sharma as the captain in the absence of Rajat Patidar. The other two changes for RCB were Suyash Sharma and Romario Shepherd.

Virat Kohli becomes 1st Batter To Score 5500 Runs As Opener

Virat Kohli achieved a historic feat during the PBKS vs RCB match by becoming the first batter in IPL history to score 5500 runs as an opener for a single franchise. The veteran batter needed only 7 runs before the start of the game to reach the milestone.

It is important to mention that Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner have also crossed the 5500-run mark as IPL openers, but they have represented several franchises.

The record achieved by Kohli is special as he has attained this for only one franchise.

Kohli registers the most runs against a single IPL opponent

During the PBKS vs RCB, Kohli also created another massive IPL record. He became the batter with the most runs scored against a single opponent in IPL history.

The RCB star surpassed his own previous record against Chennai Super Kings and now has 1175 runs against Punjab Kings.

Virat's stellar IPL 2026 season

Virat Kohli gave RCB a blazing start with an aggressive batting display. The star batter looked in fine touch from the very beginning, playing several elegant shots all around the ground and putting pressure on the PBKS bowlers.

Although young opener Jacob Bethell was dismissed early, Kohli continued the attack alongside Devdutt Padikkal.

Padikkal played an impressive knock of 45 runs off just 25 balls before losing his wicket. At the time of writing this article, Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer are at the crease.
