Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) acquisition of young guns Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer has come under criticism as the franchise has not had the best of starts to their IPL 2026 campaign.
Chennai Super Kings began with a loss to Rajasthan Royals in their opening game of IPL 19 in Guwahati. After that loss, after that, they lost their first home game of the season to Punjab Kings, and in their third game, they lost to rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
CSK will next face Delhi Capitals in their 4th match of the IPL 2026, which will be played on April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai.
CSK picks Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer for INR 28.40 crores in the IPL auction
At the IPL 2026 mini-auction last year, Subramaniam Badrinath criticized the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) management for spending INR 14.20 crore each for uncapped Indian players Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer.
After the Men in Yellow dropped three straight games in the current IPL season, the former CSK batter didn't hold back when criticizing the CSK thought tank. Kartik Sharma has made 25 runs in three games thus far, while Prashant Veer made 49 runs in two games.
Chennai Super Kings had let go of their usual way of bringing in veterans and experienced players to win matches and IPL titles and punted on young guns, and it seems like their choices have not given results as they had hoped.

S. Badrinath slams CSK for picking Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer
Subramaniam Badrinath questioned who had advised CSK to pursue these two players at the auction. The former Indian batsman stated that he would be shocked to see them score runs in the upcoming games and that even if they did, it would only be by accident.
“I don't know who gave CSK the suggestion to pick these two. I will be surprised if they score runs. Even if they do, it'll be only through a fluke. I don't trust these two playing proper shots and scoring runs. I think they are tremendously overpriced," Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.
Both getting exposed claims Badrinath
"I am sorry to say that both are getting exposed. By giving over 14 crores to both, CSK made a massive blunder. It was a huge gamble. If they fired, it would have been celebrated. But if they didn't fire, it would look like a very, very bad move, and that's what is happening now. "
"When Arshdeep Singh and Bartlett were bowling, they didn't seem to have any time. Before Prashant Veer could even lift this bat, the ball was flying past him. The truth is, they've never faced this kind of bowling in their lives," he added.
Chennai Super Kings has also been marred by injuries as they lost their strike bowler, Nathan Ellis to injury. Then MS Dhoni suffered a calf strain before the tournament began and has not played in the first three matches, while Dewald Brevis, their mercurial South Africa batter, suffered a side strain and missed the opening games as well.
