Ravindra Jadeja out of India plans - (Source: AFP)
On Friday, October 16, the BCCI released India’s squad for the upcoming ODI and Test series against New Zealand. Ravindra Jadeja was a notable absentee from the ODI squad. Meanwhile, reports suggest it is highly unlikely the left-arm spinner will play his last white-ball game for India.
The New Zealand series will mark the begining of preparations for ODI World Cup 2027, and Team India have locked in their 18-20 member list, which unfortunately Jadeja is not part of. In a significant development, a report from Times of India also stated that Ravindra Jadeja has fallen out of India’s scheme of things for the World Cup.
Ravindra Jadeja Unlikely For 2027 ODI World Cup
It is worth noting that Ravindra Jadeja was part of the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies, but was dropped for the 3rd and final match. The left-handed batter had an underwhelming series, where he didn’t get to bat and took just 2 wickets in 2 matches.
A BCCI source, speaking to the Times of India, reported that Jadeja is behind Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the pecking order, and he was part of the squad because the two all-rounders were busy in the Asian Games.
“He is not in India's scheme of things for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Axar and Washington were playing in the Asian Games, whereas Harsh Dubey and Shahbaz Ahmed are at the CoE because they were injured,” remarked a BCCI Source.
Ravindra Jadeja’s Numbers Not Helping His Case For 2027 ODI World Cup
Ravindra Jadeja has been a long servant of the Indian team and has represented the Men in Blue in 3 ODI World Cups. However, post the 2023 edition, Jadeja has featured in just 15 ODIs, amassing 149 runs and picking up 14 wickets. Hence, his numbers are not helping his case for the upcoming World Cup.
On the other hand, Axar Patel has played 14 games post the 2023 ODI World Cup, amassing 350 runs and picking up 16 wickets.
