The Women’s T20 World Cup is in full swing, and the competition in the tournament has been a riveting affair. As teams are fighting from nail to nail in every match, a rare moment was produced during the clash between the Netherlands and the South African women's team.

What can be called ‘a rare MS Dhoni moment losing his cool’ was seen as Netherlands bowler Silver Siegers did a terrible mix-up to hand South Africa batter Tazmin Brits a golden lifeline in the June 25 clash.

South Africa Batters Get Golden Lifeline After Siegers Brain-Fade Error

The incident occurred in the 12th over of South Africa's innings. Tazmin Brits punched Silver Siegers' delivery towards backward point, where the fielder gathered the ball and threw it back to the bowler's end. Siegers collected the return with Tazmin Brits well short of her crease at the non-striker's end.

Instead of simply removing the bails at her own end, Siegers attempted a throw at the striker's end, where Laura Wolvaardt had already made her ground. By the time the throw reached the opposite end, Brits had comfortably completed her dive and survived.

The missed opportunity proved costly as South Africa continued to dominate after the chance went begging.

Siegers Mix-Up Leaves Spectators Frustrated

The error immediately drew disbelief from the commentators and the spectators in the crowd alike. The panel pointed out that the dismissal required no throw at all while also pointing out that “It’s a meme now”.

Siegers only had to dislodge the bails after collecting the ball at the bowler's end. Her decision to aim for the striker's end allowed both batters to return safely.

The moment summed up a frustrating day for the Netherlands, who struggled to halt South Africa's batting momentum later in the game.

The MS Dhoni Connection And A Furious Captain Cool

The incident closely resembled a famous fielding error involving India during a T20I against England in 2017.

In that match, Yuzvendra Chahal received the ball at the non-striker's end with Jason Roy stranded outside his crease after a mix-up. Instead of breaking the stumps himself, Chahal threw the ball towards wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. Roy recovered in time and escaped the run-out.

A visibly frustrated MS Dhoni immediately shouted at Chahal for missing such a straightforward opportunity. The clip has since become one of the most viral examples of poor run-out awareness in international cricket.

Siegers' mistake followed almost the exact same sequence, making it an instant reminder of that famous Dhoni-Chahal incident.

Chahal eventually had the last laugh in that 2017 contest despite the error. The leg-spinner bounced back brilliantly to register career-best T20I figures of 6/25 as India defeated England by 75 runs.

Siegers, however, did not enjoy a similar recovery. The Netherlands failed to capitalise on the missed chance as Tazmin Brits continued her outstanding knock, finishing unbeaten on 114 from 69 deliveries. Laura Wolvaardt added 45 before Annerie Dercksen's unbeaten 37 off just 16 balls lifted South Africa to a commanding 208/1.

The Netherlands never recovered from the missed opportunity and were eventually beaten by 88 runs, with the run-out chance standing out as one of the defining moments of the match.
