After making a half-century off 38 balls, Virat Kohli did not come to the field on Sunday during RCB’s IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium.

Once the match was over, RCB captain Rajat Patidar cleared the air on the potential Virat Kohli injury. Kohli reportedly had an eye infection earlier and suffered an ankle injury while batting against MI.

Therefore, RCB took the safety route and did not bring Kohli on the field during the second half of Match 20 of IPL 2026.

Virat Kohli Injury- Rajat Patidar Breaks Silence

Speaking after the match, which RCB won by 18 runs vs MI, Rajat Patidar came to speak with host broadcasters Star Sports. There, he was asked about the potential Virat Kohli injury and what his availability status would be for the upcoming IPL 2026 fixtures.

Patidar said he did not have much of an idea of exactly what happened to Kohli. However, he also said it must not have been that much serious, or else he would have known.

"I don't know yet, but I think he (Virat Kohli), I feel that he's okay right now," Rajat Patidar said at the post-match presentation.

Interestingly, Rohit Sharma had suffered an injury scare on the same day Virat Kohli got hurt. In fact, the former MI captain had to walk off the field via retired hurt.

Hardik Pandya, however, did not give any update on Rohit Sharma’s injury at the post-match presentation ceremony.

When Did Virat Kohli Miss IPL Due To Injury?

Due to injury related concerns, Virat Kohli missed out on playing IPL matches last time in 2017. There, he had a shoulder injury in a Test match against Australia at home, which ruled him out for the first few weeks of the season.

Kohli was not available for the first three matches for RCB in IPL 2017. After that, he made his comeback against Mumbai Indians on April 17 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. On his return, he made 62 off 47 balls.

When Will RCB Play Next?

Having got three wins in four matches, RCB are currently placed third on IPL 2026 points table. Only Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, who are still undefeated this season, are ahead of them.

RCB will next play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 15 in Match 23 of IPL 2026. The fixture against Rishabh Pant-led side will take place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

It will be interesting to see whether Kohli makes himself available for RCB vs LSG match or not. Not to forget, they had given Josh Hazlewood a rest against MI, keeping in mind that they would play four matches in the next nine days.

With many important fixtures coming up, don’t be surprised if Virat Kohli sits out during RCB vs LSG IPL 2026 match to manage his workload and better recovery.
