RCB argues with umpires over timeout [Source: screengrab]
Hilarious scenes unfolded during RCB’s high-octane home match of the IPL 2026 season against CSK on Sunday, April 5.
At one stage of the RCB innings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, unbeaten batters Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal as well as head coach Andy Flower and batting coach Dinesh Karthik broke into an argument with the on-field umpires at the drinks break.
The incident occurred at the end of the 14th over of the RCB innings, at a time when both Patidar and Padikkal were going great guns after the defending champions were put into bat first by CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.
RCB camp argues with umpires amid drinks break
RCB batters Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal as well as head coach Andy Flower and batting coach Dinesh Karthik got into an argument with the on-field umpires during a drinks break.
The issue apparently stemmed from confusion over a timeout, with the two unbeaten batters arguing that they had not asked for a break at that moment.

Both Flower and Dinesh Karthik, along with the two well-set RCB batters, confronted the on-field umpires, with one of the officials hilariously leaving his drink midway through the argument.
The aggressive nature of the argument indicated that the RCB batters did not want to disrupt their run-scoring momentum and were keen to continue without interruption.
RCB mount record total with Rajat Patidar, Tim David partnership
In any case, the unwanted timeout made little difference to RCB’s intent as the defending champions ended up mounting 250-3 in 20 overs after being put into bat first.
The hosts started off with a brisk 37-run stand in 4.3 overs, with Virat Kohli chipping in through his 28-run knock from 18 balls. England import Phil Salt made 46 off 30 balls to steer RCB to 93-2 around the halfway stage of the innings.
Devdutt Padikkal at number three slapped a 29-ball half-century before getting knocked over by Jamie Overton. Captain Rajat Patidar and hard-hitting Australian Tim David formed forces at 151-3 with just six overs remaining in the innings.
The two cricketers forged 99 unbeaten runs for the fourth wicket from just 35 deliveries, shattering numerous records in the process for the RCB franchise.
RCB take the top spot, CSK still winless
RCB fast bowlers folded up CSK for just 207 in response to secure a comprehensive 43-run win in Bengaluru.
Senior paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings with figures of 3-41, thus becoming the first fast bowler in the history of the league to scale the 200-wicket landmark figure.
The outcome marked RCB’s second win in succession as Rajat Patidar and co. blazed past Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals to take the top spot on the IPL 2026 points table.
CSK, on the other hand, continue to remain winless as they succumbed to their third successive defeat of the tournament. Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, they are currently placed at the bottom of the standings with a dismal NRR of -2.517.
