In an unfortunate turn of events on Wednesday evening, rain arrived at Eden Gardens in the middle of a crucial IPL 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI). As a result, players had to rush to the dugout, as it became quite heavy within seconds.

On the other hand, the ground staff had to come to the field quickly to cover the field. They did not take much time to cover the entire ground, as the rain started to ruin everyone’s mood without taking much of a time.

Mumbai Reach 57/4 Before Rain’s Arrival

Before the rain took place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Wednesday, a lot of action happened during KKR vs MI. Firstly, it was Ryan Rickelton who had to leave the field early, courtesy of a quick Cameron Green’s breakthrough.

Cameron Green kept on doing the damage, as Naman Dhir fell for a three-ball duck. Rohit Sharma, who made Eden Gardens his home with a plethora of runs at this venue over the years, did not last long either.

Apart from Green, Saurabh Dubey took wickets for KKR on Wednesday. The left-arm pacer got Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket as well, leaving MI in tatters before the rain’s interruption. Mumbai reached 57/4 at the end of eight overs before the halt.

Eden Gardens Drainage System

Nevertheless, Eden Gardens has an advanced subsurface drainage system in Kolkata, enabling the venue to work at a quick pace once rain resumes.

To give fans some good news, rain has stopped at Eden Gardens as well at the time of writing (8:41 PM IST), and fans might not have to wait for long.

How KKR vs MI Washout Impact IPL Points Table?

Even though three teams have already qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs, there is still plenty of drama left for the remaining playoff spot. As things stand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have secured their places for the next stage.

If KKR vs MI is washed out, the Ajinkya Rahane-led team can reach 14 points at the most, provided they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 70 of IPL 2026. However, if Punjab Kings defeat Lucknow Super Giants in their last league stage match, they can get to 15 points, a point more than KKR.

On the other hand, if CSK defeat SRH in their last league-stage game, they can reach 14 points as well, making the IPL points table very interesting. Not to forget, DC are with 12 points as well, and a victory over KKR will take them to 14 points at the end of the league stage.
