After lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and playing the IPL 2026 season, both at home, Team India will now make its return to Test cricket after a gap of over six months.
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Indian team will take on Afghanistan in a one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. The match will be played between June 6 and June 10 later this week.
India’s home series will also consist of three ODI matches against the visitors, which will feature the return of legendary batters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
While the Test match will not form a part of the ongoing 2025-27 WTC cycle, it serves as a crucial stepping stone for Shubman Gill’s troops ahead of their upcoming all-important fixtures against New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Australia.
