Mumbai Indians (MI) had yet another poor campaign in the IPL 2026. Under Hardik Pandya, they ended in the penultimate spot on the Points Table, despite having one of the biggest cricketing stars on the planet.

The likes of Rohit Sharma and Pandya were injured during phases of the IPL 2026, while Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah were atrociously out of form this season.

Due to these reasons, MI failed to find their winning combination throughout the tournament. Although the franchise is well known for backing their player, there are a few who are likely to be released ahead of IPL 2027

But in this article, we will identify MI players who could turn into the biggest blunders if released before IPL 2027.

Players MI might regret releasing in IPL 2027 auction

1. Rohit Sharma

The former MI captain, Rohit Sharma, had one of his poorest IPL seasons this year, with 283 runs in nine innings. His fitness remained the talk of the IPL 2026, and with age against him, there are certain reports stating that Rohit is in the twilight of his IPL career.

However, despite a hamstring injury, the 39-year-old played a couple of remarkable, match-winning knocks for Mumbai. With the franchise set to go through a transition in leadership, the five-time winning captain will remain a vital cog in the MI squad for IPL 2027.

Thus, it would be the biggest blunder if the team's management let Rohit go before next season.

2. Deepak Chahar

Mumbai's fast bowling certainly didn't click in IPL 2026. Jasprit Bumrah's form was the biggest reason, but the likes of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult also didn't help their cause.

Chahar was a revelation for Chennai Super Kings, as he played a massive part in their triumphs in 2018, 2021 and 2023. However, he has been a mere shadow of himself during his time representing MI over the last two years.

These numbers suggest Deepak Chahar hasn't had a great time for Mumbai, but they should not leave the utility cricketer before next season's auction.

Why? With Trent Boult certainly out of Mumbai's plans, Chahar needs to be backed to share the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah.

3. Quinton de Kock

Apart from a century against the Punjab Kings, Quinton de Kock failed miserably despite being trusted in Rohit Sharma's absence due to injury. In his return to MI, the South African didn't have the same blast he used to.

De Kock has pedigree of the highest order, with the ability to change the game on its head. Moreover, he was bought for a steal price tag of INR 1 crore. Thus, he should be kept as a great backup for Ryan Rickelton.

It would be one of the biggest blunders by MI if they release the Proteas keeper ahead of IPL 2027.
