Former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has emerged as the leading name to join the BCCI senior men’s selection committee. He is expected to fill the vacancy left by Ajit Agarkar, whose contract ended on October 4, 2026.

On the other hand, Pragyan Ojha is likely to take over as the chief selector permanently after serving the role on an interim basis.

Ramesh Powar To Replace Ajit Agarkar's Place

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Ashok Malhotra-led CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) interviewed four or five candidates on October 15, a day after the application deadline closed.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer was among those considered for the position. Other candidates reportedly included former international cricketers Salil Ankola, Connor Williams and Jacob Martin.

However, Ramesh Powar is understood to have emerged as the preferred choice for the senior selection panel and might fill the position left by Ajit Agarkar.

He was initially also considered for a role in the junior selection committee and was reportedly in the running for its chairman’s position. However, recent report suggest that Ramesh Powar  is being considered for the senior men’s selection committee.

It is important to note that Powar played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India between 2004 and 2007.

Pragyan Ojha To Become Chief Selector

While Ramesh Powar is expected to join the senior selection committee as the West Zone representative, he is not expected to become the chief selector.

Pragyan Ojha is currently leading the panel on an interim basis and is considered a strong candidate to continue in the position.

It is worth noting that the CAC is also considering appointments to the junior selection committee.

According to the same report, Arun Sharma from Jammu & Kashmir may represent the North Zone. L. Pawar, a former Gujarat player, may be selected as the West Zone representative.

Rajesh Bora from Assam may represent the East Zone, while Pankaj Singh may represent the Central Zone, although his selection is not confirmed.

The report also mentions a person named Bora from Assam, most likely Deep Bora, as the representative from the East Zone.
