A couple of days after the demoralizing verdict, Fatima Sana and co. have now been penalized for breaching an ICC Code of Conduct.Interestingly, earlier in the day, the apex body also hit the Pakistan men’s cricket team with a major sanction, which further dented their dwindling WTC 2025-27 prospects.Pakistan Women hit by ICC for Asia Cup semifinal misconductOn Monday, September 14, the ICC confirmed on its official website that the Pakistan Women’s cricket team has been fined five percent of their match fees.The sanction was imposed on Fatima Sana and co. for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka in the second semifinal of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai last week. Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction on the ‘Women in Green’ after they were found one over short of the target despite taking time allowances into consideration. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel, all players of a team are fined five percent of their match fees for every over they fail to bowl within the allotted time.Fatima Sana pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction from the match referee after on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Shathira Jakir Jesy and third umpire Rokeya Sultana levelled the charges.Pakistan men’s team hit with double blow by ICCIt is worth noting that earlier in the day, the ICC also slapped the Pakistan men’s team with a double sanction for a similar offence in England.For maintaining a slow over-rate against England in the third Test of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham last week, the ‘Men in Green’ were fined 50 percent of their match fees. Moreover, the ICC also deducted 11 WTC points after they were found 11 overs short of their target.Already languishing at the bottom of the 2025-27 WTC points table, Pakistan’s PCT took further hit as it fell to a dismal 4.63.Player punishments, batting collapses and an early exit sums up Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2026 campaignIncidentally, this was not the first occasion for the Pakistan Women’s cricket team to get penalized by the ICC this 2026 Asia Cup.Just a few days ago, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was fined 10 percent of her match fees for her inappropriate sendoff gesture towards Indian opener Shafali Verma.Gull Feroza was also punished by the ICC after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct in the match against Hong Kong.In the match against India, Pakistan folded up for just 55 to record their lowest total in T20I history.
