After the mega tussle between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council, the Bangladesh Cricket Board have finally stepped in to help resolve the matter. The impasse formed by the boycott call of Pakistan is resolving soon with such interventions.
While Bangladesh, the team that was ousted from the T20 World Cup 2026 and replaced by Scotland, was the epicentre of Pakistan’s boycott of India's match on February 15, it appears now that they will again be the reason for a resolution this time.
How did Bangladesh trigger Pakistan boycotting India?
Bangladesh took an exit from the mega ICC event after their government instructed them to walk out of the tournament. Despite several formal requests to ICC, the Jay Shah-led body remained stubborn in not going into logistical complications and stuck to Bangladesh’s matches in India.
Pakistan became the sole supporter of Bangladesh on their demand, though, which later became a game of ‘politics and respect’ for the nation. Protesting Bangladesh’s ouster, PCB declared that they will not play the February 15 match against India.
ICC sent in several formal and indirect threats warning Pakistan of severe consequences if they ignore the mammoth financial dependence at stake. However, as of February 8, a solution has yet to be reached.
Nevertheless, in a positive light, the BCB president, Aminul Islam, has now been invited to Pakistan for an emergency meeting with the ICC.
BCB President lands in Pakistan for ICC meeting
The BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul has landed in Pakistan and is also set to meet PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi as they are expected to attend an ICC meeting on February 8 virtually via video call.
The meeting between ICC, PCB and BCB is set to discuss the fate of the blockbuster February 15 clash between Pakistan and India, where the former is stern on not taking the field at Colombo.
As per GeoSuper, ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja has been handed the responsibility to conduct the meeting representing the apex cricket body in front of BCB and PCB.
What to expect from the meeting?
As it is understood, Imran Khawaja, who represents the Singapore Cricket Association, might act as a mediator between these parties to discuss the February 15 fiasco. Khawaja has been given the responsibility to scale down the tension and pacify the PCB to come to terms with an ‘amicable solution’ that benefits both the Pakistan board as well as the ICC.
For the unaware, India has officially stated that it is ready to take the field on the match day. The team will travel to Colombo and will also enter the ground. If Pakistan is not present, the players will wait on the ground for the match referee to officially call off the match.
This also means India is ready to play with Pakistan despite the nerve-wracking tussle between the two teams. Hence, if Imran is successful in dialling down PCB’s stance, the most anticipated clash of the year is set to take place in the T20 World Cup 2026.
