After a disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, Pakistan will embark on its next journey as the team will take on Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series, starting on Wednesday, March 11. Pakistan played all its T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, and despite getting favourable conditions, they crashed out in the Super 8 stage.

As a result of a poor outing in the World Cup, several Pakistan stars had to face the wrath of selectors as a fresh-look team was revealed for the Bangladesh tour. There is no Babar Azam, or Saim Ayub in the side as youngsters have been given a chance to shine at the biggest stage.

With the ODIs starting on Wednesday, here is how Pakistan could lineup for the first match of the series at the Shere-Bangla National Stadium.

Pakistan probable playing XI Vs Bangladesh- 1st ODI

Openers and top order: Sahibzada Farhan, Shamyl Hossain, Maaz Sadaqat

Sahibzada Farhan, Pakistan’s star in the T20 World Cup was rewarded by the selectors with a place in the ODI team for the Bangladesh series. He has a stellar List-A record, and the destructive right-handed batter will set the tone for the middle-order batters.

He averages in excess of 40 in List-A cricket, and Farhan will hold the key for Pakistan on a surface where stroke-making could be quite difficult.

Alongside him, Shamyl Hossain is likely to open against Bangladesh. He averages 46.33 in List-a cricket, and head coach Mike Hesson has already hinted towards his inclusion in the playing XI.

Pakistan's newest sensation, Maaz Sadaqat is likely to bat at 3, and will replace Babar Azam at that position. Babar was Pakistan's designated number 3 before the Bangladesh series.

Middle order and all-rounders: Salman Agha, Mohammad Rizwan(wk), Abdul Samad, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf

Captain Salman Agha may have an ordinary record in T20Is, but he has done well for the Men in Green in the ODIs, and the senior batter is set to bat at number 4. Pitches in Bangladesh demand batters to have a good spin-game, and Agha is a brilliant player of spin, as Pakistan will hope he can counter them easily.

Forgotten player Mohammad Rizwan, is still one of the best ODI batters of Pakistan, and he will don the keepers’ glove against Bangladesh. With 2921 runs under his belt, at an average of 41, Rizwan is the backbone of the middle-order, and Pakistan would hope he can fire all guns blazing in the ODIs.

With a plethora of new faces in the side, the management is likely to include Abdul Samad in the playing XI, as the middle-order lacks the power game, and he can be the explosive batter the team requires on tricky Bangladesh wickets. Apart from him, Faheem Ashraf, and Hussain Talat will be the finishers for Pakistan.

Bowlers: Shaheen Afridi, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf

Captain Shaheen Afridi started his ODI captaincy journey with a series win against Sri Lanka, and after a poor T20 World Cup performance, the skipper will aim for yet another ODI series win to get some confidence back in the side. Alongside him, Haris Rauf, who did well in the last ODI series, will be the leader of the pace attack.

Abrar Ahmed will be the lone spinner in the side as the wily bowler will shoulder the responsibility to pick wickets in the middle-overs.
