In a significant development, the BCCI has finally announced a cash prize to honour Team India's T20 World Cup triumph. On Sunday, the Men in Blue scripted history after the Suryakumar Yadav-led side beat New Zealand in a one-sided affair and become the most successful team in the history.
The Mithun Manhas-led board issued a press release on Tuesday, where they thanked the Indian players, support staff and also the selectors for their splendid job during the tournament.
The board announced a whopping 131 crore prize money, which will be distributed among the 15-member squad, support staff, and the selectors.
BCCI Announces 6 crore Hike in Prize Money From 2024 T20 World Cup
The apex cricket board of India announced a six crore hike from 125 crore prize money awarded after 2024 T20 World Cup win in Barbados. Meanwhile, the board also congratulated the team in their press release.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men's T20 World Cup."

"With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format. The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future," stated BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in the press release.

T20 World Cup 2024 - 125 Cr
Champions Trophy 2025 - 58 Cr
T20 World Cup 2026 - 135 Cr
Notably, T20 World Cup 2026 is the biggest cash prize awarded by the BCCI in the history of the sport.
How Much Will Each Player Earn From BCCI's Cash Prize?
At present, the board has not clarified the exact amount that will be distributed to each player. The board follows a hierarchy. Players get the biggest share, followed by head coach Gautam Gambhir and the coaching staff. The BCCI also look after the selectors and then some portion of the share also goes to the physios and backroom staff.
However, if we look at the past calculations, the players earned 5 crores each during 2024 T20 World Cup. Since the prize pool has been increased by 6 crores, each player is expected to earn 24 lakhs more than the last edition.
Each player is expected to earn around 5.24 crores.
