All-rounder Nitish Reddy has been dropped from the ODI series against England due to a quadriceps injury. Since he has failed to recover in time, the BCCI decided to snub him and include a new replacement.

India are touring England for a multi-format bilateral series. The T20I series is currently ongoing, while the 3 game ODI leg will begin from July 14. However, ahead of the series, the BCCI made a change in the squad due to the injury crisis.

Nitish Reddy out of India’s ODI squad

All-rounder Nitish Reddy has been officially dropped from India’s ODI squad for the England series. He sustained a quadriceps injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan and has been in rehabilitation.

He was declared unfit for the T20I series against Ireland and England but was expected to regain fitness in time for the ODI leg. However, the BCCI formally announced that Reddy will no longer be a part of the England tour for failing to recover from his injury.

As a replacement, BCCI included fast-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube in India’s ODI squad. Dube is a perfect match as he is a left-handed middle-order batter who offers medium-pace bowling.

Dube has significant experience playing in international matches, and hence, the BCCI preferred his seniority over introducing another uncapped player.

India’s updated ODI squad vs England

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Shivam Dube

Nitish Reddy is wasting a golden opportunity

The injury came at a time when Nitish Reddy had a golden opportunity to establish himself in India's ODI side because Hardik Pandya is also unavailable due to injury and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's CoE in Bengaluru.

India were viewing him as a genuine replacement for Hardik for the 2027 ODI World Cup scheduled in South Africa. However, instead of grabbing the chance, Reddy is following in the footsteps of Hardik.

This could be a huge setback for his career as a new crop of genuine fast bowling all-rounders are already emerging from the IPL. If both Nitish Reddy and Hardik Pandya fail to work on their fitness, their international careers could be shortened, and their potential will be wasted.

Hardik Pandya still recovering from quadriceps injury

Meanwhile, apart from Nitish Reddy, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been declared unfit for the ODI series between India and England. He sustained a back injury during the IPL 2026 season and went to the BCCI CoE for rehab.

However, just when he was on the verge of recovery, the all-rounder sustained a quadriceps injury, which further pushed his return timeline. Moreover, in a bold move, Hardik shifted his base to the BCCI CoE.

He will move from Mumbai to Bengaluru and live in a rented space close to the CoE to ensure his injury crisis is resolved at the earliest. With the ODI World Cup 2027 in sight, Hardik Pandya is leaving nothing to chance.
