In a recent match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2023-27 between Nepal and the USA, Dipendra Singh Airee channelled his inner MS Dhoni to hit an outrageous six that left the fans and critics in disbelief.
Nepal were batting first and got a great start as openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh stitched a 69-run opening partnership. Ishan Pandey also scored 84 off 83 balls to capitalise on the momentum.
Later, Rohit Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee joined hands to ensure Nepal finishes with a big total.
Dipendra Singh Airee smashes an unorthodox six
Nepal’s explosive finisher Dipendra Singh Airee hammered a much-needed half-century to give a late boost to Nepal. He scored 59 off just 36 balls, including four boundaries and as many sixes.
Out of those four sixes, one shot grabbed the most attention. Facing USA’s Rushil Ugarkar, Airee picked up a wide delivery to hit an outrageous one-legged flamingo chip shot that went straight for a six.
What made the stroke even more unbelievable was the fact that the delivery was so wide outside off stump that it likely would have been called a wide had Airee simply left it alone.
Instead, the Nepal vice-captain improvised brilliantly, balancing on one leg and effortlessly lifting the ball over cover for another maximum.

The shot surely reminded fans of former legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni. He made such unusual hits famous during his prime years, especially the chip shot that Dipendra Singh Airee recreated for Nepal.
Eventually, Nepal finished with a strong total of 317/8. Airee got run out on 59 after sharing a 38-run partnership with Aarif Sheikh.

Meanwhile, in the chase, Nepal crushed the USA under scoreboard pressure. Sandeep Lamichhane picked up 3 wickets for 30 runs in his 10 overs. Lalit Rajbanshi, Dipendra Singh Airee and Gulsan Jha also contributed with 2 wickets each.
For the USA, only Sanjay Krishnamurthi showed some fight with 56 off 44 balls. The rest of the batting unit just collapsed. Eventually, the USA got bowled out on 195 in 41.2 overs to endure a 122-run defeat.
That being said, despite the loss, Team USA is still at the top of the points table with 38 points, while Nepal sits in the 5th spot with 24 points in 28 games.
Conclusion- Is Dipendra Singh Ariee turning out to be an MS Dhoni-like generational talent?
Dipendra Singh Ariee is one of Nepal’s most outstanding cricketers. His finishing skills are second to none, as he scored the fastest T20I century in just 9 balls during the Asian Games.
In his overall T20I career, Airee has hit 2180 runs at a strike rate of 138, including a hundred and 89 sixes. Apart from finishing, Airee is also a genuine all-rounder.
With the ball, he has picked up 60 T20I wickets at an average of 20.43. Needless to say, owing to his finishing talent, Dipendra Singh Ariee could soon be regarded as the MS Dhoni of Nepal.
