In other news, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has questioned the Pakistan team for boycotting India match.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Sunday, February 8.

Sachin Tendulkar lauds USA for India fight

Former cricketer and all-time great Sachin Tendulkar heaped a significant praise on the USA team for its spirited effort against defending champions India. USA gave India a run for their money on the opening day of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on February 7 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Sachin Tendulkar also praised India captain Suryakumar Yadav for pulling his side out of jail, thus avoiding a major upset early in the tournament. Team India ended up winning the match by 29 runs, largely owing to Suryakumar’s sublime 49-ball 84*.

Yashasvi Jaiswal grabs a stunner to get Devdutt Padikkal in Ranji Trophy

Star India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal snared a stunning catch for Mumbai in the fourth quarter final of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. Stationed at first slip during the 21st over of the second Karnataka innings on Day 3, the cricketer pouched a stunner with one hand to get rid of a well-set Devdutt Padikkal at 39 off 52 balls.

Gifting Mumbai spinner Tanush Kotian a timely wicket, the Ranji giants picked up two Karnataka scalps in the 29 overs of the day before stumps during the latter’s run chase of 325 for a place in the semifinal.

KL Rahul steadies Karnataka against Mumbai

Senior India batter KL Rahul is keeping Karnataka’s high-profile pursuit in check against Mumbai in the fourth quarterfinal of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. Chasing 325 runs with over two days remaining, the opening batter belted seven boundaries in his unbeaten 60-run knock from 94 balls.

By stumps, Karnataka reached 113-2 in 29 overs as they require another 212 runs to pull off a miracle win and find a place in the semifinal of the tournament. KL Rahul will now resume the Karnataka chase on Day 4 alongside Karun Nair (9*).

Nepal falls short despite Lokesh Bam’s fiery cameo against England

Nepal fell a boundary short from stunning two-time winners England in their opening match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Playing in front of a buzzing Nepal crowd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Nepal charted 180-6 in 20 overs while chasing England’s 184.

Captain Rohit Paudel made 39 from 34 balls at the top, while Dipendra Singh Airee blasted 44 from just 29 deliveries. Lokesh Bam kept Nepal in the hunt at the death through his fiery 20-ball 39*, but a tight final over from Sam Curran ensured a thrilling England win.

Sourav Ganguly questions Pakistan’s T20 World Cup boycott against India

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his surprise over Pakistan’s boycott of Team India at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The cricketer said that the Pakistan team had no reason to back out from its India match, considering the “Men in Green” are already playing their matches in Sri Lanka. The former skipper also added that any team cannot afford to lose crucial points in a World Cup.

Earlier this month, the Pakistan government prohibited the Pakistan team from facing arch-rivals India at the showpiece on political grounds.
