13 years ago, in IPL 2013, the former RCB batting legend Chris Gayle achieved a historic milestone that remains untouched to this day. It was the 31st game of IPL 2013, played between RCB and Pune Warriors India (PWI), in which Gayle smashed the highest individual score in IPL history.

The legendary southpaw smashed 175 runs off just 66 balls, with 13 fours and 17 sixes. In this knock, Gayle also achieved the milestone of the fastest IPL century, a record that remains unbroken to date.

Speaking of his 175-run knock, which is the highest individual score by any batter in the IPL, many batters have played 100+ knocks but haven’t equalled or broken this milestone. However, some batters seem to have a knack for breaking this record and scoring the highest individual score in the IPL.

Therefore, here in this article, we’ll have a look at the 5 players who can break Chris Gayle’s record of IPL’s highest individual score.

5 batters who can surpass Chris Gayle’s tally of IPL’s highest individual score

Abhishek Sharma - SRH

The explosive SRH opener, Abhishek Sharma, has been in sensational form over the last two IPL seasons, 2024 and 2025. He scored 484 and 429 runs with the blistering strike rates of 204.21 and 193.39 in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, respectively.

In the previous edition of 2025, he also achieved his IPL career’s highest score, smashing 141 runs off just 55 balls, with 14 fours and 10 sixes. The young southpaw will be in action for SRH in the upcoming IPL 2026.

Abhishek has been enjoying a purple patch with the bat in the shortest format of the game for the last couple of months. So, it would not be a surprise if Abhishek Sharma surpasses Chris Gayle’s record of the highest individual score in IPL during the upcoming 19th edition of the tournament, starting next month.

Travis Head - SRH

Another blistering SRH opener, Travis Head, has also been in an explosive touch with the bat for his side in the last two editions. He was the leading run-scorer for his side in IPL 2024, with 567 runs in 15 innings at an average of 40.50, with a strike rate of 191.55, including a century and four half-centuries.

Head has been one of the ‘top performers’ with the bat across all formats of the game. He will be in action for SRH in the upcoming IPL 2026 edition.

Travis Head’s current sensational form staunchly advocates for his contention as a batter who can break Chris Gayle’s record of the highest individual score in IPL.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi - RR

The youngest ever to play IPL and the RR’s teenage batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has left everyone awestruck with his unbelievable run of form in the white-ball cricket. The 14-year-old played only 7 games for RR in IPL 2025 but still left an impressive mark with his mind-blowing outings.

The teen southpaw smashed 252 runs in the seven innings he batted in IPL 2025. He smashed these runs at a commendable batting average of 36.00 and an astonishing strike rate of 206.55, including a century and a half-century.

Suryavanshi recently made it to the headlines for his title-winning knock of 175 runs off just 80 balls for India U19 against England U19 in the U19 World Cup 2026 final. So, he has ample time and talent to break Chris Gayle’s 175-run record to become the batter with the highest individual score in IPL.

Yashasvi Jaiswal - RR

The young RR opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, made his IPL debut in IPL 2020. Since IPL 2023, he has been in an outstanding run of form with the bat in the tournament. He is known for converting the quick starts into the big knocks, which he showcased in IPL 2023, 2024, and 2025.

He also has played a knock of 124 runs off just 62 balls, with 16 fours and eight sixes. Jaiswal has scored two centuries and 15 half-centuries in his six-year IPL career so far. His accelerating ability might make him the batter to break Chris Gayle’s record of the highest individual score in IPL history.

Phil Salt (2023-Present) - DC/KKR/RCB

In his IPL career of just three seasons from 2023 to 2025, the blistering RCB opener, Phil Salt, has amazed everyone with his swashbuckling approach. He has scored 1,056 runs in 34 innings at an average of 34.06 and a strike rate of 175.70, hitting 10 half-centuries.

Salt is known for accelerating the innings at will after completing a milestone. The highest individual score of his IPL career came in IPL 2024, when he smashed an unbeaten 89 off just 47 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes, at an amazing strike rate of 189.36.

The 29-year-old also has a knack for scoring the highest individual score in IPL history, surpassing Chris Gayle's record of 175 runs.
