Meanwhile, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has opened up about the Super Giants’ flop show in 2026 and expressed regret over not buying Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.It has been a turbulent year for LSG because the then Rishabh Pant-led side finished 10th in IPL 2026. Eventually, Rishabh Pant also left the franchise and completed a trade back to Delhi Capitals. Amid the rebuilding process, Sanjiv Goenka sat down for a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, where he shed light on LSG’s season and also shared his views on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.Sanjiv Goenka Regrets Not Going after Vaibhav SooryavanshiVaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his IPL contract during the 2025 auction, where Rajasthan Royals roped in the southpaw for just 1.10 crores. Sooryavanshi had a decent IPL 2025, but rose to prominence in IPL 2026, where he smashed 776 runs in 16 innings, winning the orange cap as well.Sooryavanshi’s rise came at a time when LSG are struggling with their batting unit. Talking to Shubhankar, Goenka remarked that missing out on Vaibhav as his biggest regret.“Every team owner will have the regret of missing out on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Now, RR have a new owner (Laxmi Mittal), and he won’t release Sooryavanshi at any cost. Vaibhav has supreme confidence. He has the talent and shots, but the supreme confidence and not being overconfident is what makes Vaibhav different from others,” remarked Goenka.Also Read: List Of Titles Won By Vaibhav SooryavanshiInterestingly, LSG management was totally unaware of Sooryavanshi’s existence during IPL 2025 because only two teams - Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals placed a bid for the youngster.Will Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Fit into LSG’s set-up?As mentioned by Sanjiv Goenka, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is unlikely to play for any other team in the future because the RR group won’t release him. However, if he were to leave and LSG were an option, then the Goenka group would break the bank to have the services of the 15-year-old southpaw.LSG had a brilliant opening pair in Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram in IPL 2025. However, the management tried to fix something that was never broken. LSG demoted Markram down the order, which led to an opening crisis as the Super Giants experimented with 7 opening pairs.So, if Sooryavanshi was to be with LSG, he would open with Mitchell Marsh, which would allow the team to play an extra overseas seamer in the playing XI. Further, it would be fair to say that if Sooryavanshi is available in the market, then any team with a perfect opening set-up will also go after the youngster.Sanjiv Goenka highlights the key reason behind LSG’s flop seasonIn the same interaction, Sanjiv Goenka also shed light on LSG’s flop reason and remarked that all departments are not clicking at the same time. He stated that LSG had a great batting unit in IPL 2025, but the bowlers flopped. For IPL 2026, the bowling unit stood up, but the batters disappointed."Some teams the best teams on paper don't win because they don't click. Meanwhile, average teams on paper win because they click.
