In an unexpected twist, legendary cricketer MS Dhoni left the CSK training camp just days after joining it ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Dhoni reportedly has prior commitments to attend, possibly the wedding of Arjun Tendulkar.

The IPL 2026 season is set to begin at the end of March, and hence all franchises have set up pre-season camps to help the players prepare and get in the groove of the T20 setup a little early. CSK, too, began their camp on March 1 with legend MS Dhoni in attendance.

MS Dhoni leaves CSK camp midway

On Day 1 of the pre-season camp, MS Dhoni was seen batting in the nets. He interacted with his fellow teammates and created some funny moments as well.

Apart from Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ayush Mhatre, Khaleel Ahmed, Rahul Chahar and a lot of other players were also seen practising in the nets.

However, just days after joining the CSK camp, MS Dhoni left Chennai abruptly. In a video circulating on social media, the legend is seen walking into the airport surrounded by heavy security.

According to rumours, Dhoni left Chennai to attend the wedding of Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendulkar. He will likely participate in the festivities and return to Chennai after a few days.

Arjun is set to marry Saaniya Chandok on March 5 in Mumbai. The pre-wedding ceremonies have already begun. MS Dhoni may attend the event with his family, though an official confirmation is awaited.

MS Dhoni to feature in IPL at 44

That being said, at the age of 44, MS Dhoni confirmed his participation in the IPL 2026. CSK, notably, retained him for ₹4 crore under the league’s uncapped player rule, which is a structure that continues into the new season.

The five-time champions endured a rare slump last season, finishing at the bottom of the table with 10 losses in 14 matches. As a result, IPL 2026 represents a crucial rebuilding phase for the Men in Yellow.

In IPL 2025, Dhoni scored 196 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17, mostly providing late-order cameos that lifted CSK in the death overs.

Dhoni fined for speeding in Ranchi

Off the field, MS Dhoni landed in unwanted controversy. According to reports, the legendary cricketer was fined ₹1,000 after his vehicle was caught overspeeding in Ranchi.

The e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with penalties for driving beyond prescribed speed limits.

According to officials, Ranchi’s automated traffic surveillance system recorded the speed violation near Dhoni’s residence. Once the breach was detected, a digital challan was automatically generated.

The incident comes shortly after the Jharkhand State Housing Board reportedly issued MS Dhoni a notice regarding alleged misuse of a residential plot on Harmu Road in Ranchi.

Authorities have questioned whether the property, allotted strictly for residential purposes, was used commercially. Officials noted that the property predates his move to his current residence on Ring Road.
