Mohsin Naqvi to give Asia Cup Trophy again (Source: AFP)
It is clearly visible that the excitement around the Women's Asia Cup 2026 is growing with every passing day. The tournament will be played in Dubai from August 28 to September 13, and India have been placed in Group A with Pakistan, Hong Kong and Thailand.
One of the biggest matches of the tournament will be the India Women vs Pakistan Women on September 5.
However, apart from the cricket, there could be another talking point if India go all the way and win the trophy. The issue could once again involve Mohsin Naqvi, BCCI, and the ICC.
If India Win, Will Harmanpreet Kaur Accept The Trophy From Mohsin Naqvi?
One question that could come into the limelight during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 again will be: Will Harmanpreet Kaur accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi if India win?
If Harmanpreet Kaur leads India to the title, it would be interesting to see whether she accepts the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, should he be present at the ceremony.
At the moment, it is important to note that BCCI's decision on this situation is not final (according to PTI). This means it is too early to say whether India will follow the same approach as the men’s team did last year.
The BCCI has already taken a stance on interactions and handshakes between the India and Pakistan teams.
However, the trophy presentation is a separate matter altogether. Importantly, this situation will only come - if India first reaches the final and then wins the tournament. Until then, the focus will remain on the India's performances in Dubai.

Why And When Did The Asia Cup Trophy Dispute Begin?
It is vital to note that the controversy over the Asia Cup Trophy 2025 dates back to the final. India defeated Pakistan in the final, but the trophy presentation became the centre of attention after the match.
Indian players, including the then T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, avoided the traditional handshake with Pakistan players.
India was affected by the tense political situation between the two countries following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier that year.
After India won the final, the Indian team did not collect the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. He is not only the ACC president but also the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and Pakistan's Interior Minister.
Naqvi reportedly also left the venue with the trophy and winners’ medals. The BCCI later raised the matter with the ICC, but the dispute over the silverware remains unresolved to date.
Can A New Trophy Presentation Plan Avoid Another Controversy Between India And Pakistan?
The situation and controversy related to the Asia Cup Trophy 2026 between India Women and Pakistan Women can be avoided.
To do so, another ACC official could hand over the silverware to the winning captain. Such an arrangement would keep the spotlight on the players and their achievement rather than the political tensions surrounding the event.
However, both BCCI and PCB, should align on a policy, as these events always cast a blip on the sport and bring disrepute due to political interference.
