IPL 2026 is still in its early phase, and the weather gods have already begun to hinder matches. On Monday, April 6, the tournament saw its first abandoned game as the KKR and PBKS match at the Eden Gardens was called off after 3.4 overs due to heavy rain.
KKR have got off to their worst-possible start and have just one point in three matches. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side are looking for a comeback, but luck doesn’t seem to be favouring them. Notably, KKR will next face LSG at the Eden Gardens on April 9, and rain threat looms over the game.
KKR And LSG Train In Kolkata Amid Disruptive Weather
Despite the rain threat, both teams sweated hard in the nets ahead of the much-awaited and important clash on Thursday. Interestingly, because of the new rules by BCCI which bar teams from intense training on match-days, they have to rely on a day or two prior to match day to train.
However, in the latest events, a major mishap was avoided at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata after the weather turned violent abruptly, and the two teams had to cancel practice and return to their hotel rooms.

The players and the management decided to cancel the training and packed up quickly, eventually returning to the hotels. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but it was scary nonetheless. Notably, rain followed the strong winds, and the groundsmen were quickly up for work.
The Eden Gardens staff quickly covered the ground despite difficulties due to the strong winds. Now, the fans are concerned about whether it will be a second straight abandoned game at Eden Gardens in IPL 2026.
Eden Gardens Weather Update For KKR vs LSG Match
For Wednesday, heavy rain and thunderstorm is predicted as per accuweather. The rain will last for long, but the bad news is that there is rain threat on Thursday, which is the match day.
According to accuweather, there is around two hours of rain predicted on Thursday morning. Further, the afternoon is said to be cloudy without rain. Even there is no rain threat in the evening. Now, the real question is whether the groundsmen will make the ground ready in time for the match because of persistent rain.
It is not an easy task, but Eden Gardens have a good drainage system and after today's incident, the covers are already in place for LSG vs KKR match.
