On Wednesday, April 1, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants locked horns at the Ekana Stadium for IPL 2026 match 5. Both teams are playing their first game of the tournament and want to start on a high.
For the toss, two captains - Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant walked down the ground. The coin flip went in the visitors' favour and DC opted to field first.
Talking about the team changes, Delhi Capitals have handed debut caps to three overseas stars - Lungi Ngidi, David Miller, and Pathum Nissanka. Interestingly, Delhi Capitals benched their 8.4 crore pick Auqib Nabi from the playing XI.
LSG, on the other hand, are without Mayank Yadav in the playing XI. He is not also in the impact sub list. Notably, Avesh Khan and Digvesh Rathi are also missing from the playing XI but they are on the impact sub list.

Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals Captain): "We will bowl first. First game, red soil so we want to see how the pitch plays. Obviously. The data is there that batting second team wins more. We want to see how our bowling goes and that's we wanted to bowl.
"Last season, we started well but we failed to qualify because of one match in the middle. We want to start well again, hope to see it goes then."
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants Captain): "I think it doesn't matter in a wicket like this. It's always good to have what you want. The wicket won't change much apart from the dew.
"(Change of colour and logo) I think it's a completely new energy for sure. We have changed our colour, logo and definitely the mindset from the last year. We are also working on the negative stuff for sure. We are feeling good and I think that's the only thing I am going to say. I am feeling good and rearing to roar. "

Interestingly, Mayank Yadav is bowling from the list despite him being fit to play all games.

For Capitals, they have Auqib Nabi on the bench, but Ashutosh Sharma is most likely to come in the 2nd innings.
