The season of T20 cricket is over, and the focus shifts towards Test cricket as England will begin their summer with a three-match Test series against the touring New Zealand side. The first game of the series commences on June 4 at the iconic Lord’s Stadium, London.

The three Tests are a part of the World Test Championship (2025-27) cycle, and thus, both teams will aim to start the fresh international cycle with a win at Lord’s, the mecca of cricket.

England, just as they always do, have revealed their playing 12 for the first Test match against the Kiwis, with two debutants set to play. Sonny Baker and Emilio Gay have been drafted into the playing XII by the England management, and the hosts have picked a strong team for the first Test.

Ahead of the first Test between England and New Zealand, we take a look at the Lord’s cricket stadium pitch report and London’s weather update.

(Lord's Cricket Stadium Test stats)

First Test of the English summer at Lord’s and expect the pitch to favour the bowlers in the initial few overs before it becomes a batting paradise. Over the last few years, barring Leeds, all the other English grounds have lost their touch since the England team has switched to the Bazball mode, a style that favours their batters.

In the last Test match played at the venue (IND Vs ENG, 2025), both sides scored 387 runs in their first innings, and in the year prior (ENG Vs SL), the hosts managed to score 427 runs in their first innings.

Expect the trend to continue as the Dukes' ball will assist the Pacers in the early going, but once the batters weather the early storm, the Lord's surface will ease out and help the batters in the ENG Vs NZ 1st Test.

The iconic Lord’s slope will also come into play in the first Test match. The bowlers running in from the Pavilion End can often angle the ball back into the right-hander, while the bowlers coming in from the Nursery End can angle the ball away from the batters in the ENG Vs NZ 1st Test match.

However, in the last few Test matches at this venue, chasing has become a difficult task, and hence, the toss-winning captain would ideally like to bat first and put runs on the board.
