New Zealand have suffered a massive jolt as star pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against India. The pacer experienced pain in his right calf during the second T20I against India, and he missed the subsequent match on Tuesday.

Ferguson is expected to be out for a week before he can resume playing. The Black Caps have named Matt Fisher as his replacement. Fisher joined the New Zealand squad as bowling cover, and will now replace the injured player for the remainder of the T20Is.

Ferguson set to be back for the final two ODIs vs India

Ferguson could bowl just three overs in the second T20I against India, and conceded 37 runs, and he failed to complete his quota of 4 overs.

Skipper Mitchell Santner was confident that Ferguson would be back for the final two T20Is, but the New Zealand management are not taking any chances. The right-arm pacer will be back for the final two ODIs against the Indian team, as stated by the Black Caps in their press release.

In the two T20Is that Ferguson played, the Kiwi pacer was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 71 runs and could only take a solitary wicket.

Matt Henry suffers low grade tear, confirms New Zealand Cricket

Apart from Ferguson, New Zealand have also suffered another injury jolt, as pacer Matt Henry was assessed following the second T20I against India, and the medical report reveals that he has sustained a low-grade tear, requiring one to two weeks of rest.

Henry was set to return to the New Zealand team for the upcoming ODIs vs India, and the management are confident he can make it on time for the 5-match series, starting on November 4.

New Zealand head coach, Rob Walter was gutted, but he remains optimistic that both Ferguson, and Henry will play a major role in the ODIs vs India.

“We’re gutted for Lockie and Matt,” said Walter. Injuries are part and parcel of international cricket but it doesn’t make it any easier when you have to miss games.

“Fortunately for Matt he was already going to sit out on the rest of the T20Is with an eye to his big summer schedule, and we’re hopeful he’ll still play a key role in the ODIs.
